Do AMD Radeon RX 9070 GPUs Come With FSR 4?

RX 9070 cards support AMD FSR 4, now called FSR Upscaling, but compatible game support and drivers are required. Here’s how it works and when it matters.

Yes—the Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT support AMD’s FSR 4 technology, but it is not a feature that automatically appears in every game. FSR is software: it works through compatible AMD drivers and games, either with native in-game support or, for eligible titles, an AMD Software upgrade. AMD now calls FSR 4’s machine-learning upscaling component FSR Upscaling, part of the broader FSR “Redstone” family.

What “comes with FSR 4” means

An RX 9070-series card provides compatible hardware, but FSR is not a separate item bundled in the box or a universal switch for every game. The driver supplies AMD’s feature support; the game must expose compatible FSR integration or qualify for AMD Software’s upgrade mechanism. AMD says FSR versions are available only in selected games and products. AMD’s RX 9070 series guide describes those game and product qualifications.

FSR 4’s current name

AMD launched the feature as FSR 4, the name many buyers still use. AMD’s current terminology calls the machine-learning upscaling component FSR Upscaling, within the larger FSR “Redstone” family. Redstone encompasses separate technologies for upscaling, frame generation and ray regeneration; support for one does not mean all are active together. See AMD’s FSR technology overview.

Which RX 9070 cards support it?

Both the Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT support FSR Upscaling. The feature is tied to the underlying GPU and AMD software, not a particular cooler or factory overclock, so board-partner versions use the same GPU-level support. That does not guarantee identical factory settings, software bundles or game extras across card makers. AMD lists FSR “Redstone” on the RX 9070 support page.

How to enable FSR on an RX 9070

  1. Install the current compatible RX 9070 driver. Driver information checked August 18, 2026: AMD listed Adrenalin Edition 26.7.1 WHQL Recommended for Windows, released July 28, 2026. Check AMD’s RX 9070 driver page for later releases.
  2. Launch a supported game and open its graphics, upscaling or anti-aliasing settings. If it has native FSR support, choose the available FSR option and quality mode there.
  3. For eligible games with built-in FSR 3.1 support, open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, go to Gaming, select the game profile, and check for the applicable FSR upgrade control. AMD introduced an option to upgrade supported FSR 3.1 games to its ML-based FSR 4 upscaler in Adrenalin 25.3.1 release notes.
  4. Choose frame generation separately if the game offers it and you want it, then restart the game if AMD Software requests it.

Labels can vary by game and driver; you may see FSR 4, FSR Upscaling or an AMD Software upgrade option. AMD’s graphics-profile instructions explain how to find game profiles. Do not confuse this with Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), a separate driver-level spatial upscaler for games without built-in FSR. AMD recommends the game’s own FSR integration when available; see AMD’s RSR guidance.

Game support is not universal

A game may support FSR 4 natively, qualify for AMD Software’s upgrade from FSR 3.1, support an older FSR version only, or have no compatible FSR option. Even within a supported game, upscaling and frame generation can have different requirements. AMD’s launch announcement described FSR 4 as an RX 9070-series exclusive and discussed upgrading supported FSR 3.1 games; that launch-era exclusivity is no longer the whole story. AMD’s current materials list ML-based FSR Upscaling on RX 7000 and RX 9000 series cards, while RX 6000 support is scheduled for 2027—not established as available as of August 18, 2026. See the RX 9000 launch announcement, current FSR overview and AMD GPUOpen’s FSR Upscaling documentation.

FSR 3, FSR 4 and RSR are different things

Technology What it does Support distinction
FSR 3 Offers temporal upscaling and frame generation as distinct functions. Game integration is required; hardware support varies by feature and game.
FSR 4 / FSR Upscaling Uses machine learning for upscaling. It is part of the wider Redstone family, which also includes other separately supported technologies. Available on supported Radeon generations and in compatible games or eligible AMD Software upgrades; it is not automatically available in every FSR 3 title.
Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) Driver-level spatial upscaling for games without built-in FSR. Separate from FSR 4 and not a way to enable its ML upscaler.

Upscaling renders internally below the display resolution and reconstructs a higher-resolution image. Frame generation creates additional intermediate frames, which can raise displayed FPS without making the underlying game render that many additional frames or delivering the same latency behavior as native rendering. Ray regeneration is a separate ML-powered denoising feature for supported ray-traced workloads. FSR support therefore does not mean every component is enabled at once.

When FSR matters to an RX 9070 buying decision

FSR is most useful when a demanding game is limited by GPU performance. Upscaling can be attractive at 1440p or 4K, particularly with ray tracing, while aggressive upscaling at 1080p may look softer or less stable. These are general rendering trade-offs, not RX 9070-specific test results. Frame generation is generally more convincing when the game already has a reasonably high underlying frame rate.

  • 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
  • FSR may be a plus if you play demanding games that support it, use a high-resolution display, or want more performance headroom for ray tracing.
  • It should not decide the purchase alone if your regular games lack compatible support, you prefer native rendering, or you are particularly sensitive to frame-generation artifacts or latency.
  • Compare the whole card on price, native performance, ray tracing, power, noise, warranty and physical fit as well as FSR. The RX 9070 support page lists 16 GB GDDR6, a 256-bit memory interface, up to 640 GB/s bandwidth, 220 W typical board power, a 650 W minimum recommended PSU, DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b; those specifications do not establish FSR performance.

AMD’s RX 9070 page listed Windows 10, Windows 11 and Linux support, but the consumer activation workflow above is primarily for Windows gaming. HYPR-RX is also not another name for FSR 4: it can enable a mix of features depending on the title and profile, as explained on AMD’s HYPR-RX page.

If FSR is missing or looks wrong

The game has no FSR option

  • Update both AMD Software and the game, then confirm the RX 9070 is the active GPU.
  • Check whether the title supports native FSR or is eligible for the FSR 3.1 upgrade. Not every FSR 3 game qualifies.
  • Check the game’s graphics API or rendering mode against its requirements; some upgrade paths may depend on the mode in use.
  • Try the game’s native FSR option rather than the driver upgrade. If the title is unsupported, RSR is a separate alternative, not FSR 4.

The image is blurry or unstable

  • Switch from Performance to Balanced or Quality to raise internal rendering resolution.
  • Temporarily disable frame generation to isolate upscaling, and compare the same scene at native resolution.
  • Check that dynamic resolution, another upscaler or sharpening setting is not also affecting the image.
  • If the issue began after a driver change, consider testing a different compatible driver; use native game integration where available.

Frame generation creates artifacts

Ghosting, UI artifacts, distorted fast-moving objects or uneven motion can vary by game and implementation. Try disabling frame generation while leaving upscaling on, or revert to native rendering or an older supported FSR option if the result is distracting.
