JLab earbuds and headphones work with PS4 and PS5 when you use a 3.5-mm controller connection, a PlayStation-compatible USB wireless dongle, or Bluetooth handled by a compatible TV or monitor. Ordinary Bluetooth-only JLab earbuds generally cannot be paired directly with either console as a standard audio device.
JLab compatibility at a glance
| JLab product or connection | PS4/PS5 method | Game audio | Voice chat | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wired 3.5-mm earbuds or headphones | Plug into the controller | Yes | Usually, if the plug and microphone are compatible | Best existing-product option |
| Standard Bluetooth earbuds or headphones | TV/monitor Bluetooth or a separate transmitter | Usually through the TV/monitor | Do not assume it will work | Not normally direct to the console |
| JLab gaming headset with supplied USB dongle | Connect the dongle directly to the console | Yes, when PlayStation support is listed | Usually, if the headset exposes a microphone | Best wireless route |
| USB-C charging cable only | Charging connection, not automatically an audio connection | Not established | Not established | Do not treat it as a USB headset |
| TV or monitor Bluetooth | Pair the JLab product with the display | Usually | Usually unavailable to the console | Useful audio workaround |
JLab’s own guidance recommends the controller’s 3.5-mm connection and identifies TV or monitor Bluetooth as an alternative for PS5: JLab PS5 pairing guidance. Sony says third-party headset compatibility varies and that not all USB audio devices work with PS5: PS5 audio-output support.
Do JLab earbuds work with PS4?
Wired JLab earbuds
Connect earbuds with a suitable 3.5-mm plug to the DualShock 4 headset jack. On PS4, open Settings > Devices > Audio Devices. Check Input Device, Output Device, Adjust Microphone Level, Volume Control (Headphones), and Output to Headphones. PS4 defaults output to Chat Audio, so select the option that sends game audio as well if that is what you want. The menu details are documented in Sony’s PS4 Audio Devices manual.
A microphone is not guaranteed merely because earbuds have a 3.5-mm plug. The earbuds need a compatible TRRS wiring arrangement and an actual microphone.

Bluetooth-only JLab earbuds
Most ordinary Bluetooth JLab earbuds cannot pair directly with PS4 as a normal Bluetooth audio headset. Use the controller, pair with a Bluetooth-capable TV or monitor, or choose a transmitter specifically documented for PS4 audio. A transmitter may provide sound without providing a usable microphone or party chat.
Do JLab headphones work with PS5?
Using the DualSense controller
For wired JLab headphones, connect the 3.5-mm cable to the DualSense. On PS5, go to Settings > Sound > Audio Output, confirm Output Device, and set Output to Headphones for the audio mix you want. For microphone controls, press the PS button, select Mic, choose the input device, and adjust the microphone level. Volume controls are under Settings > Sound > Volume. PS5 can switch output devices automatically when a supported device is connected, but Sony cautions that compatibility is not universal: Sony PS5 audio settings.

Using a JLab wireless gaming headset
If the model includes a USB or USB-C wireless transmitter and explicitly lists PlayStation support, use that transmitter rather than the console’s Bluetooth menu. Sony’s general setup is:
- Charge the headset with its supplied cable.
- Insert the USB adapter directly into the PS4 or PS5.
- Turn on the headset.
- Wait for the status indicator to stop blinking or become solid.
- Open the console audio settings and verify the headset as both output and, where supported, input device.
Sony documents this procedure for PlayStation wireless headsets at Pair a headset with PlayStation. Avoid hubs and extension adapters when troubleshooting; JLab’s Epic Lab dongle instructions also stress a direct connection: JLab Epic Lab dongle setup.

Will ordinary JLab Bluetooth earbuds connect directly to PS5?
Usually no. This does not mean the PS5 has no Bluetooth functionality; Bluetooth support for controllers and accessories is different from unrestricted Bluetooth audio-profile support. Sony does not promise compatibility with every third-party Bluetooth headset.
JLab’s support page uses inconsistent wording about “PS5 Bluetooth Audio,” but its actionable options are the controller, a TV or monitor, or another supported connection. Treat that page as setup guidance, not proof that ordinary JLab earbuds will pair natively: JLab’s connection guidance.

Can JLab earbuds provide PS5 voice chat?
Game audio and microphone input are separate. A wired JLab headset with a compatible TRRS plug and working microphone is the most predictable option. A JLab gaming headset with a PlayStation-compatible USB dongle can support chat when the console recognizes its microphone. Earbuds connected to a TV over Bluetooth may deliver game sound, but the PS5 generally cannot use that TV-connected microphone for party chat.

If you already own wired JLab earbuds
Use the controller. It is the lowest-cost, low-latency solution and is the most likely to provide both sound and chat, provided the earbuds include a compatible microphone.

If you own wireless JLab earbuds
- Dedicated PlayStation-compatible transmitter included: use the transmitter and its gaming mode.
- No transmitter: use TV/monitor Bluetooth for audio, or verify an external transmitter’s microphone, latency, and console support before buying.
If latency matters
- Wired controller connection.
- Dedicated 2.4-GHz USB gaming connection.
- TV or monitor Bluetooth.
- Generic Bluetooth transmitter.
This is a practical order, not a universal laboratory ranking. Product-specific latency claims apply only to the stated model and connection mode.
JLab gaming models made for PlayStation
JLab’s PlayStation collection identifies Daybreak, Midnight, and Nightfall gaming products as PlayStation-oriented: JLab PlayStation collection. U.S. prices below were observed on August 18, 2026 and can change.
| Model | Observed U.S. price | Best for | Connection notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nightfall Wired | $29.99, reduced from $39.99 | Least expensive wired solution | Wired gaming headset; check the supplied cable and controller fit |
| Nightfall Wireless | $44.99, reduced from $59.99 | Budget wireless gaming | Confirm the current included wireless connection on the product page |
| Midnight Wireless | $99.99 | Midrange wireless gaming | Designed around a dedicated gaming connection |
| Daybreak Wireless | $139.99 | Feature-rich wireless use | 2.4-GHz USB-C dongle, USB-A adapter, Bluetooth 5.3, 3.5-mm AUX, detachable microphone |
JLab advertises Daybreak’s LabSpeed 2.4-GHz mode at 25-ms latency and 70-plus hours of playtime, and lists PlayStation compatibility: Daybreak specifications. The 25-ms figure is JLab’s claim for that 2.4-GHz mode, not a measurement for every JLab product or for ordinary Bluetooth. Daybreak’s collection price was also listed at $139.99 on the date above.
Troubleshooting JLab on PS4 or PS5
The dongle is detected but there is no sound
- Connect it directly to the console, not through a hub.
- Put the headset in 2.4-GHz or dongle mode, not Bluetooth mode.
- On PS5, check Settings > Sound > Audio Output > Output Device.
- Raise the headset volume and confirm the console is not still sending sound to HDMI or the TV.
Game audio works but chat does not
- Verify that the JLab model has a microphone.
- Check PS5 Mic controls or PS4 Input Device and Adjust Microphone Level.
- If the earbuds are paired to the TV, do not assume the console can receive their microphone signal.
TV Bluetooth audio is delayed
Bluetooth latency can be noticeable during gameplay. Switch to the controller’s wired connection or a dedicated low-latency USB gaming transmitter.
The headset works on a computer but not PS5
Computer compatibility does not establish PlayStation compatibility. Some USB products depend on drivers, software, or a wireless mode that the console does not support. Sony’s compatibility warning applies here: PS5 audio-output support.
Quick Recap
Final decision
- Already own wired JLab earbuds? Plug them into the controller and configure the audio menu.
- Want reliable wireless gaming? Choose a JLab model whose official listing includes PlayStation-compatible USB wireless.
- Own ordinary Bluetooth-only JLab earbuds? Use TV/monitor Bluetooth for audio or another verified connection; do not expect direct PS4/PS5 pairing or guaranteed voice chat.
