Usually, no—fast travel is reported not to reset the Mistbury Catacombs switches. The dungeon state can reset when a player logs out or the host/server reloads the session, however. In co-op, keep the host session running until the four switches are complete and the final gate has opened. If all four indicator lights are visibly on but the gate remains closed, the practical recovery reported by players is to leave the Catacombs, fully exit and restart the game, then enter again.
What the Mistbury Catacombs puzzle is checking
Mistbury Catacombs is the dungeon used by The Queen’s Tomb quest. Its final room has a gate leading to the sarcophagus that contains Pikemead’s Bulwark. Four separate switches operate the puzzle. Each one illuminates one of the four indicators mounted above the gate; when all four indicators are lit, the gate is supposed to open.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe reset question matters because the dungeon mixes exploration with a stateful puzzle. A group can activate several switches, leave to repair or restock, and later find that the gate state has changed after a session reload. A dark indicator can also mean that a switch was never activated, so check the lights before assuming a reset occurred.
Do the switches reset when you fast-travel?
A Gamer Guides walkthrough reports that Mistbury Catacombs does not reset simply because you fast-travel away. That is the best available practical guidance for a group that needs to leave the area temporarily. Fast travel is therefore the lower-risk way to pause an unfinished run, provided the host remains in the same active session.

This is a guide-based report rather than a published Mistbury-specific rule from Keen Games. It should be treated as the expected behavior, not an unconditional guarantee for every future build, world type or server configuration.
Which multiplayer actions can reload the puzzle?
For planning purposes, separate actions that move your character from actions that reload the dungeon session. The latter are the ones most likely to discard the current switch state.

| Action | What the available evidence indicates | How a party should treat it |
|---|---|---|
| Fast travel away and return | A dungeon walkthrough says the switches do not reset on fast travel. | Normally safe for a temporary break; verify the four lights when you return. |
| Player logout | The same walkthrough says the dungeon resets when you log out. | Finish the puzzle before logging out, or be prepared to activate the switches again. |
| Host logout | The host owns the active co-op session, so ending that session can reload the dungeon. | Keep the host online until the gate is open and the reward has been collected. |
| Server or world restart | A restart is a fresh session load and is treated as potentially resetting the puzzle. | Do not restart midway unless the group accepts that it may need to redo the switches. |
| Leaving and rejoining | No official page specifies every leave/rejoin sequence for Mistbury. | Consider the result uncertain; have the host check the lights before anyone assumes progress persisted. |
| Returning after a failed gate trigger | Players report that a full game exit and restart, followed by re-entry, can clear a gate that stayed shut with four lights on. | Use this as troubleshooting, not as a normal way to preserve progress. |
The official Enshrouded FAQ confirms that the game is an online co-op multiplayer game and supports “up to 16” players. It does not document a Mistbury-specific persistence rule for a host, a dedicated server or every reconnect pattern. Consequently, the fast-travel and logout distinction comes from dungeon guidance and player support rather than an explicit developer specification.
How to run the Catacombs without losing progress
1. Choose a session owner
Decide which player will host the world and ask that person to stay connected until the gate opens. A host logout, world restart or other session reload is the most disruptive event identified by the available guidance. If a different player must leave, keep the host in the world and use fast travel instead of ending the session.
2. Bring the interaction tools
The routes to the switches use several interaction types. Pack lockpicks for metal gates, a ranged weapon for switches that can be triggered from a distance, and a grappling hook or other mobility ability for elevated sections. A bow, wand or another ranged attack is sufficient for switches described as activatable from range. Entering without one of these tools can make a switch appear inaccessible when the problem is equipment, not a reset.
Rank #2
- Lockpicks: required for the metal gates described by the guides.
- Weapon for ranged attacks: used to hit switches from a distance when a direct approach is blocked.
- Grappling hook or mobility ability: useful for elevated routes and platforms.
- Weapons and supplies: carry enough to finish the route before anyone needs to restart the session.
3. Activate every switch and watch the indicators
As the group explores, call out each switch and confirm the corresponding light above the final gate. The puzzle has four switches and four lights; the count is a useful diagnostic. If only three indicators are illuminated, the gate is behaving as though one switch is still inactive, even if the party remembers passing through that section.
4. Return to the gate before leaving
After the fourth switch, go back to the final gate and confirm that all four indicators are genuinely glowing. This check separates an incomplete route from a persistence problem. Only after the gate has opened should the group treat the dungeon objective as complete and consider logging out.
What to do when all four lights are on but the gate stays shut
“All four buttons are lit but the door won’t open” is a known community-reported failure mode. Use the following order so that you do not throw away a solvable puzzle state prematurely.
- Stand at the gate and recount the indicators. Confirm that each of the four lights above the gate is illuminated. A switch hidden behind a door, above the main path or on an elevated route can be easy to miss.
- Check the route for an uncompleted interaction. Metal gates may require a lockpick, wooden doors can be destroyed, and elevated sections may require a grappling hook or mobility ability. If one route was skipped because the party lacked a tool, the fourth light will remain dark.
- Keep the host in the current session while checking. Do not log out or restart during this verification, because the available walkthrough guidance associates logout with a dungeon reset.
- Leave the Catacombs if the four lights are definitely on. Exit the dungeon rather than repeatedly attacking the gate. This preserves a clear point at which to restart the client.
- Fully exit and restart the game. Two Steam support discussions describe this as resolving the stuck-gate condition. One participant wrote on January 26, 2024: “I have since solved this by exiting the game completely and redoing the catacombs.” This is a player report, not a guarantee from Keen Games.
- Re-enter and check the indicators again. If the dungeon state reloaded, redo the switches in a single uninterrupted run, then return to the gate. Bring the required tools so that no route is blocked a second time.
If restarting does not correct the gate, record whether the host or a client triggered the restart, which lights were visible, and whether the world is locally hosted or running on a server. Those details are useful when reporting a bug because no official source currently defines the behavior for every multiplayer configuration.
Can you leave and come back without redoing the Catacombs?
Leaving by fast travel is reported to preserve the dungeon, so a party can temporarily depart and return without expecting to redo the switches. That expectation changes once the world is reloaded. Logging out, ending the host session, restarting the server or entering after a fresh dungeon load should be treated as a possible reset, not as a guaranteed continuation.
Rank #3
There is no official Keen Games statement covering every player leave/rejoin sequence or dedicated-server behavior for Mistbury. A client who disconnects while the host remains online may see a different result from a host who closes the world; the evidence does not establish a universal rule. The safest coordination method is to have the host remain active, use fast travel for short breaks and verify the four lights immediately after anyone reconnects.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why a reset may be mistaken for a missed switch
The Catacombs’ traversal design creates several look-alike failures. A locked metal gate can hide a switch, a wooden door can look like scenery until destroyed, and an upper platform may be reachable only with a grappling hook or mobility skill. Some switches can be activated from range, so a player searching only for a button at arm’s length may walk past the correct firing position.
Use the indicators as the objective status rather than relying on memory of the route. Four lit indicators mean the game has registered all four activations; one, two or three lit indicators mean the party should search for the missing interaction before restarting. If the count changed after the host logged out or the world restarted, that is consistent with the reported reset behavior.

A repost of historical patch notes records a Mistbury Catacombs quest-progress reset issue. That confirms that reset-related bugs have existed in the past, but it does not show that every current reset is a bug or that the historical issue remains in the current build. Treat old patch information as context, not as proof of the behavior on your present version.
The current practical rule is therefore evidence-weighted: fast travel is reported as non-resetting; logout and reloads are potential reset points; and a gate that remains closed with four lights on is a community-reported failure that may respond to a full restart. Future patches can change any of these outcomes.
Multiplayer checklist
- Confirm who is hosting and ask that player not to log out before the gate opens.
- Carry lockpicks, a ranged weapon and a grappling hook or equivalent mobility tool.
- Count the four indicators above the final gate instead of assuming a switch was activated.
- Use fast travel for a temporary break; avoid ending or reloading the world midway.
- If all four lights are on and the gate is closed, leave the dungeon and fully restart the game before re-entering.
- Remember that Pikemead’s Bulwark is in the sarcophagus beyond the gate, so do not abandon the run before confirming the reward room has opened.
Bottom line for a co-op party
Plan the Mistbury Catacombs run as one continuous host session. Fast travel is the reported safe pause, while logout, host or server restarts and other fresh loads can reset the switches. The four lights provide the most reliable status check. If they are all illuminated and the gate still refuses to open, a complete game restart and a fresh Catacombs run is the recovery that players have reported working; it remains community evidence rather than an official guarantee.
