Yes. Roblox requires users to be at least 13 and complete an age check before they can enable Voice Chat. Its current approved methods are ID verification or Facial Age Estimation; phone verification does not qualify. Even after checking your age, access can depend on your region, account settings and the experience you join.
What Roblox requires for Voice Chat
- Age: You must be at least 13.
- Age check: Complete ID verification or Facial Age Estimation, if the method is offered for your account and region. See Roblox Support’s Voice Chat setup instructions and its age-check explainer.
- Opt in: Voice Chat is not automatically enabled just because you pass an age check.
Roblox explicitly says phone verification is not a valid way to gain Voice Chat access. A phone number on a verified account therefore does not replace the required age check.
How to turn on Voice Chat
- Confirm that the account user is at least 13.
- Complete an age check using ID verification or Facial Age Estimation if Roblox offers it for the account.
- Join an experience that supports Voice Chat.
- Enable Voice Chat in the experience settings, or select the headphone icon if it appears. On PlayStation, connect through the in-experience settings.
- If the control is missing, check regional availability and account or parental communication settings.
Why the Voice Chat control may be missing
The feature may not be available in your region
Roblox Voice Chat is not available everywhere. Its Voice FAQ lists supported countries and explains that availability is regional. If you are outside a listed country, Roblox directs users to ID verification; completing an age check still does not guarantee that Voice Chat is offered in your region.
The experience may not support it
Voice Chat availability can vary by experience. Look for the headphone icon or check the experience’s settings rather than assuming the feature is available in every game.

Account or parental settings may restrict communication
Roblox says communication settings can affect whether eligible users can access voice features. Review the account’s communication and parental controls using Roblox’s chat guidance and parental-control instructions.
Does a headset or purchase unlock it?
No. A microphone or headset may be useful for speaking once Voice Chat is available, but neither equipment nor a Roblox purchase grants access. Eligibility depends on the account’s age check and feature availability, not on buying hardware, a game or a gift card.

Which verification method should I use?
Use ID verification or Facial Age Estimation when Roblox offers either option for your account. Roblox’s dedicated Voice Chat instructions say phone verification is not a valid method, even if other Roblox help pages discuss phone verification for separate account purposes.
Roblox can change its age-check process, supported-country list and feature availability. Consult its current support pages if the options or controls in your account differ from these instructions.
