Yes—during Escape from Tarkov’s New Year’s event announced with Patch 0.12.12.10, killing Santa Claus cost Fence reputation whether you were playing as a PMC or a Scav. Battlestate Games described the penalty as “significant,” but did not give an exact amount. That was a seasonal rule announced in December 2021, not confirmation that Santa or the same penalty is active now.
Did killing Santa lower Scav reputation?
Yes, under the New Year’s event rules announced in December 2021. Battlestate Games said that killing Santa Claus with either a PMC or a Scav incurred a significant reputation penalty with Fence. Fence reputation is the counter players commonly call Scav karma.
The official notice did not specify how much reputation a Santa kill removed. Do not treat any precise deduction found elsewhere as a universal amount established by that announcement. Battlestate Games’ Patch 0.12.12.10 and New Year’s event notices
Did the penalty apply to both PMCs and Scavs?
Yes. The announcement explicitly covered both roles, so the historical rule was not limited to Scav runs. It described a Fence reputation penalty for killing Santa whether the player was a PMC or a Scav.

Is Santa’s penalty active now?
The cited rule belongs to the New Year’s event announced in December 2021. The notice said Santa could spawn on locations other than Laboratory, would not interfere with firefights, and would retaliate if injured; those statements describe that event and do not establish current availability.
A later update in the same official channel changed event behavior, including saying Santa would no longer attack players who attacked other Scavs. It did not state that the Santa-kill penalty had been removed. Neither notice establishes that the 2021–22 rules apply to a later event. Check the current event instructions rather than assuming Santa is present or that an old rule remains active. How to check your Fence reputation change
- Read the active event rules before deciding how to respond to Santa or other event characters.

- If the result is unexpected, compare it with the current event notice and current guidance; temporary events and later patches can affect reputation interactions. Tarkov Field Guide’s Scav Karma guide
