No. Game Pass is not specifically required for Forza Horizon 6 Treasure Hunts if you own the game. Playground Games lists the Standard Edition as a separate purchase, alongside Deluxe and Premium editions, while also including Standard Edition in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Treasure Hunts have not been identified as a Game Pass-only feature.
The practical requirement is progression: the Festival Playlist becomes available after you qualify for the Horizon Festival and earn your first Wristband. If a Treasure Hunt appears as a Festival Playlist challenge, that unlock is the first thing to check. Individual future events could still have their own conditions.

Players who bought a qualifying edition of Forza Horizon 6 do not need to maintain a Game Pass subscription solely to access Treasure Hunts. Game Pass is one way to obtain the game, not the only entitlement route.
The official launch information names three standalone editions—Standard, Deluxe and Premium—and says the Standard Edition is included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The official material does not classify Treasure Hunts as a separate Game Pass benefit. That means ownership of the game and access to the relevant in-game progression are the important questions.

This answer is about the base game entitlement. It does not guarantee that every future Treasure Hunt will have identical requirements. The official pages reviewed do not publish a Treasure Hunt-by-Treasure Hunt matrix covering expansions, Premium content or limited events.
How Treasure Hunt access fits into the Festival Playlist
Playground Games describes the Festival Playlist as a set of weekly events and challenges. The launch announcement gives a specific progression gate:
“The Festival Playlist becomes available from the moment you’ve qualified for the Horizon Festival and earned your first Wristband.”

Treasure Hunts presented through that playlist should therefore be checked only after the playlist itself has unlocked. Buying the game or joining Game Pass does not replace the opening progression steps.

What to do in order
- Start Forza Horizon 6 with either a purchased edition or an active entitlement through Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.
- Play through the opening sequence until you qualify for the Horizon Festival.
- Earn your first Wristband.
- Open the Festival Playlist and look for the current weekly challenges, including any Treasure Hunt entry.
- Read the individual event description for its own objective or restriction before assuming it is available to every player.
If the Festival Playlist is still locked, changing from a purchased copy to Game Pass—or the other way around—will not bypass that progression requirement.

What you get from buying the game instead of subscribing
A standalone edition changes the payment model, not the basic playlist progression. With a purchased copy, you do not need to keep a recurring Game Pass subscription just to retain the game entitlement. You still need to finish the introduction, qualify for the Horizon Festival and earn the first Wristband before the Festival Playlist appears.
When buying Standard makes sense
- You want permanent access to the base game without a recurring subscription.
- Your main goal is the regular game and its playlist challenges rather than early access or Premium extras.
- You are comfortable purchasing optional add-ons separately if a later event requires content outside the base game.
When Game Pass is the simpler route
- You already subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.
- You want to play the Standard Edition without paying its separate purchase price.
- You prefer to try the game before deciding whether to buy an edition outright.
These are access and ownership trade-offs. They do not create different Treasure Hunt rules once the same base game and progression state are available.

What Premium content changes—and what it does not
Premium Upgrade is described as optional additional content for Game Pass members and owners of Standard or Deluxe. Its clearest launch benefit is timing: it can provide access to the full game up to four days before the regular launch window. Forza Horizon 6 officially launched on May 19, 2026, so that early-access window was tied to the period before launch.
Premium content should not be confused with a subscription requirement. The Premium Upgrade does not appear in the official material as a prerequisite for the Festival Playlist or for Treasure Hunts generally.
The broader Premium offering also includes listed extras. Playground Games’ early-access information says the Car Pass delivers 30 total cars. The launch material describes a game with more than 550 cars overall. Those figures describe the size of the game and an optional car-content package; neither figure establishes that Treasure Hunts require Premium access.
The important exception to keep in mind
An individual challenge could refer to an expansion, car pack or other content with its own eligibility rule. The official sources available here do not enumerate every future Treasure Hunt or promise that all of them will use exactly the same entitlement. Check the event’s announcement or in-game description if a particular hunt appears unavailable after the playlist unlocks.
Platform and storefront questions
Players often use “Game Pass” to mean several different access arrangements. The official statements specifically name Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass for the included Standard Edition. They do not provide a separate Treasure Hunt entitlement chart for Xbox console, the Xbox PC app, Steam or cloud play.

That distinction matters when diagnosing a missing event. First determine whether the account is using:
- an active Game Pass Ultimate entitlement;
- an active PC Game Pass entitlement;
- a purchased Standard, Deluxe or Premium edition; or
- an edition with an optional Premium Upgrade.
Then confirm that the game is running on the account and storefront associated with that entitlement. The cited official pages establish the editions and named subscription plans, but they do not state that a particular storefront receives a different Treasure Hunt rule.

1. Confirm the base-game entitlement
Verify that the account either owns a full-game edition or currently has Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass. The Standard Edition is the edition explicitly included with those two plans.
2. Finish the opening progression
Do not use the absence of a playlist challenge during the tutorial as evidence of a subscription problem. Qualify for the Horizon Festival and earn the first Wristband, which is the official unlock point for the Festival Playlist.

Treasure Hunts are time-sensitive challenges when they are included in a weekly playlist. Look at the active Festival Playlist rather than an expired weekly set.

4. Read the event’s own requirement
Look for wording that points to a specific expansion, car, mode or other add-on. A requirement tied to optional content is different from a requirement for Game Pass itself.
5. Separate early access from ongoing access
If you are comparing Premium Upgrade with Standard, remember that Premium’s documented advantage includes early access and extra content. It is not documented as a permanent key to ordinary Treasure Hunts.
6. Recheck the entitlement after a plan or account change
If you recently changed subscriptions, switched accounts or moved between a purchased copy and a subscription copy, close and relaunch the game after confirming the correct account is active. If the playlist remains unavailable after the first Wristband, consult the event-specific announcement or official support channel rather than assuming that another Game Pass tier is required.

Common misunderstandings
“Only Premium players get Treasure Hunts.”
The official launch and early-access information does not say that. Premium adds early access and listed extras; it is not identified as a general Treasure Hunt entitlement.
“Buying Standard removes playlist access.”
The Standard Edition is a full-game purchase and is also the edition included with the named Game Pass plans. The documented playlist gate is progression, not whether the Standard Edition was purchased or accessed through a subscription.
“A missing hunt proves Game Pass has expired.”
It could instead mean that the Horizon Festival introduction is incomplete, the weekly playlist has changed, or that the particular event has an additional content requirement. Check those possibilities in that order.
“Every future Treasure Hunt is guaranteed to work the same way.”
No official source cited here makes that promise. The safe conclusion is that Game Pass is not specifically required when you own the game, while event-specific exceptions must be checked individually.
