A 24/7 study stream should be a YouTube live stream, not a Premiere. A live stream broadcasts in real time and suits an ongoing or changing feed. A Premiere is a scheduled, shared viewing event for a video you have already uploaded; it suits a prepared study session with a defined start and finish.
Live stream vs. Premiere: what changes?
| Decision | YouTube live stream | YouTube Premiere |
|---|---|---|
| What viewers watch | A broadcast happening in real time. | An uploaded video presented as a shared event. |
| Best fit | An ongoing or changing 24/7 study feed. | A finite, prepared study session released at a chosen time. |
| Before it starts | You can schedule a stream; it may appear as upcoming, and viewers may be able to select “Notify me.” | A public watch page is available before the event, with reminders and chat. |
| During the event | Viewers watch the broadcast as it happens. | Viewers share playback and chat. They can rewind, but cannot skip ahead beyond the point reached in the presentation. |
| After the event | YouTube’s setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish that a longer broadcast will be fully archived as one replay. | The video remains on the channel as a regular upload. |
| Handoff | A live stream can redirect viewers to a Premiere when it ends, subject to YouTube’s eligibility requirements. | A Premiere can receive viewers redirected from a live stream. |
Why a Premiere is not the format for a continuous feed
A Premiere is an event wrapped around an uploaded video, rather than an ongoing broadcast. It works well when you have recorded a complete study session and want viewers to start it together at a scheduled time. Its countdown, chat, reminders, and rewind option make it a communal release, but it does not turn that upload into a continuously changing live feed.
There are also format limits to consider: YouTube’s Premiere guidance says Shorts are not supported, and Premieres do not support 360/VR180 video or output above 1080p. If a higher resolution or a continuous feed matters, those limitations reinforce the case for choosing a live stream.
How to set up a study stream on YouTube
Choose a broadcasting method
YouTube documents mobile, webcam, and encoder-based ways to go live. A webcam or mobile broadcast may suit a simple setup; an encoder is an option for a more produced stream. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events, but says expensive equipment is not necessary to get started.

Check eligibility before planning the broadcast
YouTube’s get-started guidance lists a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days as requirements, and says streamers must be at least 16. Requirements and interface details can change, so check YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility information before relying on them for a scheduled event.
Schedule and promote the stream
Schedule the live stream if you want to give viewers advance notice. A scheduled stream may appear in subscribers’ feeds as upcoming, where viewers can select “Notify me.” If instead you have a finite, finished video to release at a set time, schedule a Premiere; its public watch page can let viewers set reminders, comment, and chat before the event.

Plan the replay separately from the live broadcast
Do not treat YouTube’s archive guidance as a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 uptime or a complete replay of a longer transmission. The cited setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not establish that a stream lasting longer than that will be retained completely as one video. If keeping a full study archive matters, plan and verify the recording separately rather than assuming a continuous broadcast will produce one complete replay.
Use Live Redirect for a scheduled follow-up
If you want the continuous stream to lead into a special prepared session, YouTube’s Live Redirect can send viewers from a live stream to a Premiere after the stream ends. YouTube says the creator sending the redirect needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. Set up the Premiere first, and tell viewers to wait a few seconds after the live stream ends while their screens reload.
