No confirmed source in the available official announcements establishes that a new Solo Leveling release permanently strips Sung Jinwoo of his “strongest” status. The headline does not identify a specific chapter, volume, episode, or game update, and the available game and webtoon announcements do not verify that claim. In particular, an in-game “Successor” label is not proof of a permanent change in the main story.
What the official releases actually say
Netmarble’s game descriptions still frame Jinwoo as the strongest
In its November 25, 2025 announcement for Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE, Netmarble describes Jinwoo as rising to become “the world’s strongest hunter – the Ultimate Shadow Monarch.” That is the publisher’s promotional framing for the game, not confirmation about every Solo Leveling continuity. Netmarble’s Solo Leveling: ARISE character profile likewise describes Jinwoo’s growth through the System after the Double Dungeon incident and his ability to turn the dead into Shadow Soldiers. It does not announce that he permanently loses a strongest designation. See the official Jinwoo profile.
The “Successor” wording belongs to an ARISE update
A July 30, 2026 ARISE update introduces “the Monarch of Shadows’ Successor” into battle and says Jinwoo takes on the form of the Monarch of Shadows. This describes an in-game character and update; the announcement does not say that the main-series narrative transfers Jinwoo’s status or permanently makes another character stronger. Why the claim is hard to verify without the release name
Solo Leveling has more than one format and story context, so “new release” alone is not enough to identify a status change. Kakao Entertainment’s January 2023 announcement says the webtoon’s special episodes include side stories and an epilogue published after the original web novel concluded. It gives context for the webtoon’s continuation, but does not say Jinwoo loses his strongest status. Kakao reported 14.3 billion cumulative worldwide views at that time; that is a historical figure from the 2023 announcement, not a current total. Read Kakao Entertainment’s announcement.
To judge a specific claim, first identify the work and release date, then check the actual chapter, volume, episode, or update. Also distinguish a formal title from demonstrated combat power, and a temporary plot or gameplay condition from a permanent story change. The available announcements do not resolve those questions for an unnamed release.
