Bandai Namco lists ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The publisher gives October 2, 2026 as the worldwide launch date. Multiplayer is handled through a distinct mode called ACE COMBAT ONLINE rather than through the campaign save.

Does ACE COMBAT 8 support HOTAS?
It supports the officially licensed Thrustmaster T.FLIGHT HOTAS NEO Ace Combat 8 Edition models. Thrustmaster publishes a native mapping specifically labeled “Ace Combat 8 – PC & PS5 – T.Flight Hotas NEO – Native Mapping,” establishing a documented setup for the PlayStation/PC model on PS5 and PC.

What “native mapping” means here
A native mapping means the manufacturer has published a control layout intended for ACE COMBAT 8, rather than requiring you to build every button and axis assignment from scratch. “Plug & Play” describes the licensed models’ stated platform compatibility; it is not a blanket certification for every flight stick, throttle, or adapter.
Are generic HOTAS systems supported?
Do not assume so. The official material identifies the T.FLIGHT HOTAS NEO models but does not establish universal compatibility for all third-party HOTAS hardware. A device may connect to a PC and still lack a usable in-game layout, while console compatibility can depend on the exact licensed model and console family.
If you already own another HOTAS, check its manufacturer’s ACE COMBAT 8 compatibility statement for your exact model and platform before buying the game or an adapter. Treat “works on PC” and “works on PS5 or Xbox” as separate claims.

Read the platform label on the box or product page carefully. The console family is the important distinction; the shared PC compatibility does not mean a PlayStation-labeled unit is an officially documented Xbox controller, or vice versa.

How to set up a supported HOTAS
- Match the variant to your platform. Use the PlayStation/PC model for PS5, the Xbox/PC model for Xbox Series X|S, and a PC-compatible model for Steam.
- Connect the complete set before starting the game. Plug in the stick and throttle as directed by the hardware manufacturer, then allow the console or PC to recognize the device.
- Use the manufacturer’s ACE COMBAT 8 mapping. Thrustmaster’s support documentation provides the native mapping for the T.FLIGHT HOTAS NEO. This is the safest starting layout for the licensed hardware.
- Launch ACE COMBAT 8 and verify the controls. Check that stick movement, throttle input, trigger, and the other assigned buttons register in the game’s control options. If an axis is reversed or has an unexpected dead zone, adjust that control rather than assuming the hardware is defective.
- Test in a low-stakes flight first. Confirm that the aircraft responds correctly before entering a competitive or cooperative session. A layout that feels comfortable in free flight may still need sensitivity or button changes for your preferred aircraft.
The documented mapping removes much of the initial configuration work, but it does not guarantee that every player will prefer the same sensitivity, axis direction, or button layout. Keep the original mapping available so you can restore it if custom changes cause confusion.
What multiplayer does ACE COMBAT 8 include?
ACE COMBAT ONLINE is a multiplayer-only mode with progression and save data separate from Campaign Mode. That separation matters if you expect campaign unlocks, statistics, or progress to carry directly into online play: the publisher describes the online mode as having its own progression and save data.

- Co-Op Assault: cooperative missions in which pilots work together.
- Co-Op Warfare: another cooperative format listed separately by the publisher.
- Special missions: online missions outside the regular cooperative categories.
- Limited-time PvP and PvE events: rotating competitive and player-versus-environment activities that are available for limited periods.
The published description frames these activities around building a reputation as mercenary pilots. It does not provide a player-count figure, performance target, or schedule for the limited-time events, so those details should be checked in the game when an event is active.

Does ACE COMBAT 8 have cross-play?
Yes. The multiplayer FAQ states that the game has full cross-platform support. That means a player on PS5 can play online with someone on Xbox Series X|S or Steam, subject to the normal requirements for accessing each platform’s online services.
Cross-play applies to the multiplayer activities described by the publisher, including Co-Op Assault, Co-Op Warfare, special missions, and the limited-time PvP and PvE events. It is not a statement that the campaign is cooperative or that campaign saves synchronize between platforms; ACE COMBAT ONLINE is explicitly a separate multiplayer mode with separate progression and save data.
Playing with friends on another platform
- Confirm that everyone owns the game on a supported platform. The documented platforms are PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.
- Enter ACE COMBAT ONLINE rather than Campaign Mode. Online progression is maintained separately, so campaign activity is not the route into a multiplayer session.
- Use the game’s multiplayer group or invitation flow. The cross-platform promise means the platform brand itself should not prevent a PS5, Xbox, and PC group from playing together.
- Select an available activity. Choose Co-Op Assault, Co-Op Warfare, a special mission, or an event that is currently active.
- Check that each player is on the same game version and online service. Cross-play cannot overcome an update mismatch, an unavailable event, or a platform account that is offline.
The publisher confirms the cross-platform capability but does not publish a universal party-size number or a detailed invitation interface in the supplied material. Those operational details can vary by platform and may be shown in the game’s current online menus.

Choose PS5 if you want the documented PlayStation HOTAS path
PS5 has a specifically documented PlayStation/PC T.FLIGHT HOTAS NEO variant. It also participates in the same full cross-platform multiplayer network as Xbox and Steam.

Choose Xbox Series X|S if you want the Xbox-licensed HOTAS variant
The Xbox/PC model is the officially licensed option described for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Xbox players receive the same published cross-play support and ACE COMBAT ONLINE mode structure.
Choose Steam if you want the widest input flexibility
PC is the platform on which both T.FLIGHT HOTAS NEO variants are documented as PC-compatible. PC owners should still verify the exact model and mapping rather than assuming that every generic flight controller will be recognized correctly.

The stick is detected, but buttons do the wrong things
Restore the manufacturer’s native ACE COMBAT 8 mapping, then test one control at a time. Custom profiles created for another flight simulator may use different axis names or button assignments.

Recheck the platform label on the hardware. The officially documented console variants are separated into PlayStation/PC and Xbox/PC models. A PC-only or incorrectly labeled accessory is not established as console-compatible by the available documentation.

A generic HOTAS works in another game but not here
That result is possible because compatibility is game-specific. ACE COMBAT 8’s official documentation confirms the T.FLIGHT HOTAS NEO models, not every device that functions in another flight game. Look for an ACE COMBAT 8 mapping or a device-specific support statement before troubleshooting adapters.
Friends on different platforms cannot join
Make sure everyone is entering ACE COMBAT ONLINE, using the same current game version, and selecting an available multiplayer activity. Platform differences alone should not be the explanation because the publisher describes the game as fully cross-platform.
Online progress does not match campaign progress
This is expected under the published structure: ACE COMBAT ONLINE has progression and save data separate from Campaign Mode. Check the mode you are viewing before assuming that a save was lost.
