What age changes in Fallout 1
The Interplay manual lets you set your character’s age from 16 to 35. It says, “Age will have no direct influence on your character during the character creation stage.” That means the manual does not describe age as a character-creation modifier.
In the same discussion, however, the manual adds, “Age will have some small bearing on the game.” It does not identify a stat, skill, dialogue option, or other specific effect. Because that broader statement is unexplained, it would be too definite to say the manual promises age has no effect anywhere in the game.
Is age a build choice?
A community-authored Fallout walkthrough by Lemmings19 says that age “doesn’t matter; it’s not checked in any of the scripts.” This supports the practical view that age is not a meaningful build variable, but it is a secondary guide rather than an official engine specification.

The available sources identify no age-dependent attributes, skills, dialogue, or build strategy. For a character’s capabilities, focus on SPECIAL attributes, skills, and traits instead; there is no documented age-based build advantage.

Pick any value within the manual’s 16–35 range that fits the character you want to role-play. The sources do not establish a gameplay reason to prefer one age over another, nor do they explain the manual’s reference to a “small bearing.”
