Riot explicitly confirms that Akshan’s Heroic Swing (E) damage scales with attack speed. Attack speed also changes how often his basic attacks occur, but those are two separate meanings of “scaling.” Riot’s Patch 26.1 notes clarify the E tooltip without publishing a numeric attack-speed coefficient, so you can safely say the interaction exists but not calculate an exact damage increase from the official note alone.
What “scales with attack speed” means for Akshan
Players use “scales with attack speed” to describe two different mechanics. The first is straightforward: a higher attack-speed stat lets a champion complete basic attacks more frequently. The second is an ability formula: the ability’s damage calculation includes attack speed as an input. Akshan has both, but they should not be treated as the same effect.

Basic-attack frequency
Attack speed measures the rate of a champion’s ordinary attacks. Increasing it generally means more attacks over the same period, subject to the game’s attack timing rules. This matters to Akshan because his passive is tied to attacking and because attacks are part of his normal damage pattern.

Damage scaling inside an ability
An ability that scales with attack speed can deal more damage when the champion’s attack-speed value changes, even if the ability itself is not a basic attack. Riot’s Patch 26.1 notes specifically identify this behavior for Heroic Swing. That statement is the direct answer to the question, rather than an inference from Akshan’s passive.

Riot’s confirmation for Heroic Swing
In the Akshan section of Riot’s Patch 26.1 notes, the E — Heroic Swing entry says: “Clarified that damage scales with attack speed in tooltip.” This is an explicit confirmation, not a community interpretation of attack animations or item statistics.
The wording is important. It confirms the relationship and explains that the tooltip was clarified, but it does not provide a complete formula. The same entry appears alongside changes involving Heroic Swing’s damage and critical-strike scaling. Therefore, a tooltip or patch-note clarification should not be read as a promise that every amount of bonus attack speed produces a publicly documented, fixed percentage of extra damage.
What you can state confidently
- Heroic Swing damage has attack-speed scaling.
- Attack speed is relevant to E damage independently of its effect on ordinary attacks.
- The cited official notes do not give a coefficient, breakpoint, cap, or worked damage example.
What you should not claim from that note
- Do not assign a specific damage percentage to each point or percentage of attack speed without a current, authoritative formula.
- Do not assume the E scaling is linear, uncapped, or identical across patches.
- Do not treat the tooltip sentence as proof that an attack-speed purchase is always Akshan’s best damage choice.
How Akshan’s passive fits into the answer
Akshan’s passive, Dirty Fighting, creates another reason attack speed can feel relevant, but it is not the evidence for E’s damage scaling. Riot’s champion description says that every three hits from Akshan’s attacks and abilities deal bonus damage and grant a shield when the target is a champion. When Akshan attacks, he fires an additional attack for reduced damage. If he cancels that additional attack, he gains movement speed instead.
The additional attack
The passive’s extra attack is a separate attack event with reduced damage. A higher attack-speed stat can affect the overall rate at which Akshan performs ordinary attacks, which in turn changes how quickly attack-based effects can occur over time. The official description does not quantify the extra attack’s timing as a function of bonus attack speed, so it is not valid to turn the passive description into an exact attack-speed formula.
The cancel choice
Akshan can cancel the additional attack and receive movement speed instead. That is a behavioral choice in the passive, not a statement that movement speed itself scales with attack speed. Riot’s champion page does not specify a movement-speed amount that changes with bonus attack speed.

Three-hit effects
The passive’s every-three-hits trigger involves attacks and abilities. Attack speed can influence the time needed to perform repeated attacks, while Heroic Swing has its own damage calculation. These interactions can occur in the same fight, but they should be analyzed separately when you are trying to identify where damage came from.
Why attack speed can affect both attacks and E without being one formula
Suppose you increase Akshan’s attack speed. His ordinary attack cadence may change, and Heroic Swing’s damage calculation may also use the new attack-speed value. Those are two outputs of the same stat, not one shared damage multiplier. The extra attacks from Dirty Fighting, the three-hit passive trigger, and E’s own damage are different components that can respond differently.
This distinction prevents a common error: measuring more total damage after buying attack speed and attributing all of the increase to Heroic Swing. More frequent attacks, passive triggers, and E scaling can overlap in a test. To isolate E, cast it under otherwise identical conditions and record its damage separately from attacks and passive procs.
What the attack-speed ratio changes
Champion attack speed is commonly discussed together with an attack-speed ratio. The ratio determines how bonus attack speed translates into the final attack rate, so it is relevant when estimating ordinary attack frequency. It does not, by itself, reveal Heroic Swing’s damage coefficient.
The ratio and champion-stat details can be patch-sensitive. Secondary references may list values for a particular patch, but those figures should not be treated as a definitive current Akshan E formula. For a current calculation, use the live game’s current tooltip and the latest Riot patch documentation rather than carrying an old ratio or community spreadsheet forward.

How to test the interaction without confusing the results
If you need a practical check on a live patch, use a controlled practice-game comparison. The purpose is to establish whether E damage changes with attack speed on that patch, not to manufacture a coefficient that Riot has not published.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Record Akshan’s attack-speed value and the damage number produced by Heroic Swing against the same target.
- Change only the attack-speed source you are testing. Keep level, ability rank, target, defenses, and other offensive stats unchanged.
- Cast Heroic Swing again and record the result. Repeat enough times to account for any ordinary damage variation or critical-strike outcome.
- Do not include basic-attack damage, the reduced-damage passive attack, or three-hit bonus damage in the E measurement.
- Compare the two E results and repeat the test in reverse if possible. A reversible change helps expose a recording error or an unrelated stat change.
- Save the patch number and the exact tooltip text with your notes. A later balance update can change the relationship or its presentation.
This procedure can demonstrate an in-game difference, but it still does not establish a universal formula unless the game displays enough information to derive one reliably. Treat a test result as patch-specific evidence.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to think about attack-speed purchases
The confirmed E interaction means attack speed is not irrelevant to an Akshan build. It can contribute through at least two routes: faster ordinary attacks and Heroic Swing’s attack-speed-dependent damage. However, the absence of an official coefficient prevents a precise ranking of attack speed against every other offensive stat from the cited material alone.
Use attack speed when your plan includes repeated attacks
If your play pattern relies on repeatedly attacking between abilities, attack speed has an obvious frequency benefit. It may also let you reach attack-based passive events sooner. Evaluate that benefit over the duration of the fights you expect rather than looking only at one E cast.
Do not buy it solely because E scales
“Scales with attack speed” establishes direction, not necessarily efficiency. Without the coefficient, you cannot conclude that an attack-speed increase produces more E damage than another stat, that a particular breakpoint exists, or that stacking attack speed is optimal in every matchup.

A single Heroic Swing cast measures the ability’s direct response. A longer combat sequence also includes attack cadence and passive triggers. Decide which question you are answering before comparing setups.
Common misconceptions
“Only basic attacks scale with attack speed.”
That is false for Akshan’s E according to Riot’s Patch 26.1 clarification. Heroic Swing’s damage has explicit attack-speed scaling.
“The passive extra attack proves the E formula.”
It does not. Dirty Fighting explains an additional reduced-damage attack and a cancel-for-movement-speed option. It does not publish Heroic Swing’s coefficient.
“More attack speed always means proportionally more E damage.”
Riot confirms scaling but does not state that the relationship is linear or proportionally one-to-one. Avoid converting the confirmation into an invented percentage.

“The movement-speed reward must scale with attack speed.”
The official passive description says that canceling the additional attack grants movement speed, but it does not say that the amount changes with bonus attack speed.
What to check when a tooltip or result looks different
- Patch mismatch: verify that the tooltip, notes, and test all come from the same game patch.
- Critical outcome: Heroic Swing’s critical-scaling behavior can make individual damage readings unsuitable for a direct comparison.
- Passive contamination: remove ordinary attacks and three-hit effects from an E-only measurement.
- Changed target conditions: use the same target defenses and combat setup for every reading.
- Tooltip scope: a clarification can expose an existing rule without supplying every underlying coefficient.
Patch freshness and the limits of the current answer
The direct confirmation here comes from Riot’s Patch 26.1 documentation. Champion mechanics can change in later patches, and the cited notes do not provide a numeric attack-speed-to-E-damage formula. Before publishing or relying on exact numbers, check newer Riot notes and the current in-game tooltip. The durable conclusion is the existence of the scaling; any coefficient, cap, breakpoint, or optimal build conclusion requires current patch-specific evidence.
