A separate Solo vs Squads option lets solo Raiders level 40 and above enter the Squads queue alone for a stated 20% end-of-round XP bonus.
What “solo” means in ARC Raiders
Playing solo means queueing without your own squadmates. It does not put you in a solo-only lobby: other Raiders may be grouped, and player-versus-player encounters remain possible.
Embark says it prioritizes equal squad sizes where possible, but that is a matchmaking preference rather than a promise. There are no PvE-only lobbies or servers where other Raiders can never attack you, according to the official matchmaking explanation.
Solo matchmaking vs. Solo vs Squads

The Solo vs Squads option is a deliberate extra challenge, not a conventional solo-only mode. Embark introduced it in the January 27, 2026 Headwinds patch notes.

How matchmaking affects solo raids
Embark says matchmaking considers several factors, including squad size and players’ behavior toward other Raiders over previous rounds. Its playstyle system uses a continuous range rather than sorting everyone into only “friendly” or “shoot on sight” categories. Similar playstyles are more likely to be matched, but not guaranteed; the team’s stated priority is to balance fairness and enjoyment with practical limits such as queue time and latency.
- Behavior matters over time: the system looks for patterns. A single shot or kill does not immediately place someone in a PvP-focused group.
- Self-defense is treated differently: defending yourself is not treated the same as initiating a fight.
- Low-activity rounds count less: a quiet round has less influence on the playstyle assessment.
- Loadout is not a factor: Embark says your equipment does not affect matchmaking.
- A squad leader does not define everyone: the leader alone does not determine the profile for an entire squad.
These are matchmaking tendencies, not guarantees of a peaceful raid, a solo-only lobby, or a particular opponent mix.

How to choose the option you want
- For an ordinary solo raid: start matchmaking without joining or inviting squadmates. You will enter without your own squad, but opponents may include groups.
- For the harder solo challenge: reach Raider level 40, then look for the Solo vs Squads toggle above matchmaking and enable it before queueing. It sends you into the Squads queue alone.
Embark’s Headwinds notes say the availability notification may not appear, so check above matchmaking if you meet the level requirement and do not see an alert. The documented reward is 20% bonus XP at round end whether you extract successfully or are defeated.
