What cross-play means in ARC Raiders on PS5
Cross-play lets a PS5 player join friends who are playing ARC Raiders on a supported PC or Xbox platform. Embark describes Embark ID as enabling “cross-platform play with friends on any supported system,” while the ARC Raiders site describes social play across PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

In practical terms, your PS5 is not limited to PlayStation players. A squad can include people on PlayStation, Xbox and PC, provided each person is using a supported version of the game and has the account setup required by Embark. Cross-play is a social and matchmaking capability; it does not, by itself, merge separate accounts or guarantee that every storefront entitlement transfers.

The published descriptions establish cross-platform social play across these platform families. They do not specify every matchmaking, party, regional or account-level exception, so a particular friend-invite flow can still depend on the game’s current interface and service status.

What cross-progression means on PS5
Cross-progression means that your game account can retain its progress when you move between supported platforms. Embark’s “What is Embark ID?” guidance explicitly identifies cross-progression between Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The same account guidance says Embark ID stores your gear, progress and cosmetics. Embark’s account-creation explanation also says the ID keeps purchases tied to the account and lets you switch between Steam, Epic, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S without losing progress. The clearest platform list for the formal cross-progression statement is Steam, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; Epic is named in the broader account-switching explanation.
Data associated with Embark ID
- Progress: Your game progress is associated with the Embark ID rather than being isolated to one PS5 installation.
- Gear: Embark says gear is stored with the account.
- Cosmetics: In-game cosmetics remain tied to the account.
- Purchases: Embark’s account guidance includes purchases among the data stored by the ID.
This does not mean that buying the game on two storefronts automatically merges two unrelated profiles. The account must be linked correctly first, and storefront entitlement rules can vary by platform or region. The official guidance confirms account-linked progression, but it does not document every edition, regional entitlement or item-level exception.
How to link your PS5 and other platforms
The important requirement is using one Embark ID consistently. Create or link that ID when ARC Raiders first starts on PS5, then connect any other platform accounts from the Embark ID account page.

- Start ARC Raiders on PS5. At first launch, wait for the account prompt.
- Choose the correct account option. Select Create New Account if you do not have an Embark ID, or Link Existing Account if you already use one.
- Sign in with the Embark ID you intend to keep. If you already play on Steam or Xbox, use that same ID rather than creating a second profile for PS5.
- Finish the account connection. Complete the on-screen sign-in and linking flow before beginning a new character or progression path.
- Add another platform later if needed. Sign in to Embark ID, open the account-name menu, choose Connected Platforms, and link the additional platform account.
- Repeat with the same Embark ID. Connect your PS5, Steam or Xbox account to the single ID that should hold your progress, purchases, gear and cosmetics.
Embark says one Embark ID can be linked to one account per platform, including Steam, PlayStation and Xbox. That one-account-per-platform rule is why choosing the correct ID at first launch matters.
What to do if a platform account is already linked
If PS5, Steam or Xbox reports that the platform account is already connected, Embark’s guidance says it must be unlinked from the other Embark ID before it can be connected to the intended one. A platform account cannot simply be attached to two Embark IDs at once.
Safe recovery sequence
- Identify which Embark ID currently owns the platform connection.
- Sign in to that Embark ID and open the account-name menu.
- Go to Connected Platforms and review the linked accounts.
- Unlink the platform account from the old Embark ID if it is attached there.
- Sign in to the Embark ID you want to use for cross-progression.
- Open Connected Platforms again and link the platform account.
Do not create a new Embark ID merely because the first link attempt fails. A second ID can leave your PS5 and another platform holding separate progress histories, which the published guidance does not describe as mergeable.

Before switching platforms, verify that the account page lists the expected connections under Connected Platforms. The PS5 account and the other platform account should appear under the same Embark ID.

After linking, launch ARC Raiders on the second platform with that platform account. The meaningful check is whether the account-associated progress, gear and cosmetics appear there. If the second platform opens a fresh profile, stop before investing more time and confirm that the platform is signed in to the same Embark ID used on PS5.
- Check the spelling and identity of the Embark ID used on both devices.
- Confirm that the PS5 account is linked to the intended ID, not a newly created one.
- Review Connected Platforms for duplicate or unexpected account connections.
- Do not assume that owning the game on two platforms merges separate Embark IDs.
PS Plus requirement for PS5 online play
Sony’s PS5 product information states that PlayStation Plus is required for online play. Because cross-play is an online social feature, a PS5 player should have the required PS Plus access before attempting to squad with PC or Xbox friends.
This requirement concerns online access on PlayStation 5. It is separate from Embark ID linking: an account can be correctly connected and still need the applicable PlayStation online-service subscription to play online from the console.
Cross-play and cross-progression are separate features
These terms answer different questions:
- Cross-play: Can your PS5 session play with friends on supported PC and Xbox platforms? For ARC Raiders, yes.
- Cross-progression: Does the same account retain progress when you change platforms? For ARC Raiders, yes, when the supported accounts use the same Embark ID.
You can therefore have cross-play without having set up cross-progression correctly. For example, a PS5 player might join a PC friend while the two platform accounts are associated with different Embark IDs. The social session can work, but the player should not expect the separate profiles to share progress, purchases, gear or cosmetics.
Platform-shopping details that remain account-dependent
The official statements confirm that ARC Raiders has a PS5 version and that Embark ID handles the listed account data across supported platforms. They do not provide a complete chart of regional editions, storefront entitlements or exceptions for every individual item.
That means cross-progression should not be interpreted as a blanket promise that every purchase made through one storefront automatically grants every possible entitlement on another storefront. The documented promise is that purchases and in-game content are tied to the Embark ID; the exact treatment of a specific edition or regional product should be checked against the relevant storefront and account terms.

Creating a second Embark ID on PS5
Symptom: Your PS5 starts with no familiar progress even though you play on Steam or Xbox.
Fix: Return to the account flow and choose Link Existing Account. Sign in with the Embark ID already used on the other platform. If the PS5 account is now attached to the wrong ID, review Connected Platforms and follow the unlink-and-relink process.

Linking the wrong console or PC account
Symptom: A different user’s profile or an empty profile appears after linking.
Fix: Check which PlayStation, Steam or Xbox account is signed in at the platform level, then verify the corresponding entry in Connected Platforms. One Embark ID supports one account per platform, so the platform identity matters as much as the Embark login.
Assuming game ownership performs the link
Symptom: You own ARC Raiders on more than one platform but see separate progress.

Fix: Ownership on two storefronts is not the same as connecting those accounts. Sign in to the same Embark ID on both platforms and confirm both entries on the account page.
Trying to play online without PS Plus
Symptom: Cross-platform friends cannot be joined from PS5.
Fix: Confirm that the PlayStation account has the PS Plus access Sony requires for online play, then recheck the Embark ID and platform links.
Bottom line for PS5 players
ARC Raiders supports cross-play on PS5 with supported PC and Xbox players, and it supports cross-progression between Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S through Embark ID. Create or link the account at first launch, connect additional accounts under Connected Platforms, and keep every platform on the same Embark ID. Your progress, purchases, gear and cosmetics are then associated with that account. PS Plus remains required for online play on PS5.
