Arknights: Endfield should run at broadly the same frame rate on Steam Deck OLED and Steam Deck LCD. Both use eight RDNA 2 graphics compute units clocked at 1.6GHz, so the OLED revision is not a faster performance generation. The OLED is the better Endfield machine for long sessions because its 50Wh battery, 6nm APU and 90Hz HDR display improve endurance and presentation. The LCD remains a sensible choice if you already own one and care primarily about frame rate.
The short answer: OLED lasts longer, but it does not render Endfield faster
For the game itself, expect similar rendering performance from the two Deck revisions. Valve lists the same Zen 2 CPU family and the same eight RDNA 2 compute units at 1.6GHz in both models. That means OLED does not provide a meaningful GPU advantage over LCD at the same settings.

- Frame rate: Similar on both revisions. The available hands-on test reached mostly 60 frames per second at Very Low settings, with occasional dips.
- Battery: OLED has the larger battery and more efficient APU platform, making it the stronger option for portable Endfield sessions.
- Screen: OLED adds HDR, higher contrast and a refresh ceiling of 90Hz. LCD is limited to 60Hz.
- Compatibility: Endfield requires a Proton and launcher setup that may be manual. “Available on Steam” and “Steam Deck Verified” are separate claims.
If you already have an LCD Deck, buying an OLED solely to gain Endfield frames is difficult to justify. If you are choosing a Deck for a new purchase and expect to play Endfield unplugged, OLED’s endurance and display are the more substantial upgrades.

Why the frame rate is so similar
The GPU configuration is effectively the same
Steam Deck OLED uses a 6nm AMD APU with eight RDNA 2 compute units at 1.6GHz. Steam Deck LCD uses a 7nm AMD APU with the same Zen 2 CPU design and eight RDNA 2 compute units at 1.6GHz. The manufacturing process changes efficiency and thermals, but Valve’s listed graphics resources and clock do not change.

- 1280 x 800 HDR OLED display with premium anti-glare etched glass, 7.4" Diagonal display size up to 90Hz refresh rate
- Wi-Fi 6E
- 50Whr battery; 3-12 hours of gameplay (content-dependent)
- Carrying case with removable liner
Endfield therefore has no reason to produce substantially more frames on OLED when both machines use the same resolution and graphics preset. An OLED Deck can feel more responsive because its panel refreshes more often, but that is display behavior rather than additional game rendering power.
What the 90Hz screen can and cannot do
A 90Hz OLED panel can present a 45fps lock evenly, with two refreshes for each rendered frame, and it gives a 60fps lock more headroom than a 60Hz panel. It cannot create frames that Endfield fails to render. If a demanding area drops to 40fps, changing from LCD to OLED does not turn that workload into 60fps.
Valve’s support guidance also cautions that running above a Deck display’s refresh limit does not improve the image and can consume more battery. In practice, cap the game at a rate the hardware can sustain rather than chasing an uncapped number.
What the published Endfield test actually measured
Steam Deck HQ tested Endfield on January 23, 2026, using Proton Experimental, the Very Low graphics preset and a 60fps cap. Its result was mostly 60fps with occasional dips, at a measured system draw of approximately 22–24W and an observed battery life of about 1.5–2 hours.
Those are observations from one configuration, not a promise for every map, patch or Deck revision. The test did not provide a controlled OLED-versus-LCD comparison using the same game build, locations and settings. Treat its frame-rate and battery figures as a useful starting point for expectations, not as a guaranteed result.

Battery: the main reason to choose OLED
| Specification | Steam Deck OLED | Steam Deck LCD | What it means for Endfield |
|---|---|---|---|
| APU process | 6nm AMD APU | 7nm AMD APU | OLED’s platform is designed for better efficiency, not higher listed GPU performance. |
| Battery capacity | 50Wh | 40Wh | OLED has more stored energy before accounting for display and software differences. |
| Valve’s battery statement | “30–50% more battery life” | Baseline for the comparison | Valve’s percentage is a product-level statement, not an Endfield-specific laboratory result. |
Endfield is a demanding game on Deck-class hardware. At the 22–24W draw recorded by Steam Deck HQ, an LCD Deck’s 40Wh battery has less reserve than the OLED’s 50Wh pack. OLED’s lower-power panel and 6nm APU should further improve runtime, although no cited controlled test measures the two revisions side by side in Endfield.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe 1.5–2-hour result from the published test illustrates the workload: even the more efficient revision should not be treated as an all-day battery device when targeting high settings and a high frame-rate cap. A 40fps or 30fps cap may reduce power use and extend runtime, but the available evidence does not quantify the saving for Endfield.
Display differences you will notice while playing
| Display feature | Steam Deck OLED | Steam Deck LCD |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | 1280×800 | 1280×800 |
| Panel type | HDR OLED | LCD |
| Refresh ceiling | Up to 90Hz | Up to 60Hz |
| Panel size | 7.4 inches | Not stated in the cited specifications |
Both models render Endfield at the same native 1280×800 resolution. OLED’s practical advantages are image quality, HDR support, deeper contrast and the option to synchronize a 45fps lock cleanly with a 90Hz refresh. These improvements are most apparent in dark scenes, bright effects and handheld play in variable lighting.
LCD’s 60Hz ceiling is sufficient for a 30fps or 60fps target. It does not make the game slower; it simply offers fewer display refresh options. If Endfield spends much of its time below 60fps, OLED’s panel quality remains visible even though the GPU workload is unchanged.
Compatibility and the meaning of “Steam Deck Verified”
PC requirements are not the same as Deck certification
Gryphline’s official Steam notice lists Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, DirectX 11.1 or later, an i5-9400F-class minimum CPU, a GTX 1060-class minimum GPU, 16GB of RAM, 50GB of free space and another 40GB during extraction. It also states that the Steam release supports cross-platform account synchronization.

Those are Windows PC requirements. They do not certify that the Linux-based SteamOS environment will launch the game without configuration.
The compatibility record has changed over time
SteamDB’s compatibility record, tested on September 3, 2026, listed Steam Deck and SteamOS as Unsupported and noted that Valve was still working on support. Gryphline announced official Steam availability after the October 15, 2026 update. Because the SteamDB snapshot predates that announcement, the label and the current launcher behavior may not agree immediately.
In other words, “Endfield is on Steam” does not automatically mean “Endfield is Steam Deck Verified.” Check the current store compatibility label and recent player reports before assuming a plug-and-play installation.
How to set up Endfield on a Deck
The exact route depends on whether the native Steam release is working with your current SteamOS and Proton versions. Keep at least 90GB free for the stated 50GB installation footprint and 40GB extraction requirement before beginning.

- Check storage in Game Mode. Open Settings > Storage and verify that the internal drive or selected microSD card has room for both the installed files and extraction space.
- Try the official Steam listing first. In Game Mode, search for Endfield, install it and allow Steam to complete its file verification. If the title is not marked Verified, expect additional troubleshooting.
- Select Proton Experimental when needed. Open the game’s page, choose the gear icon, select Properties > Compatibility, enable the option to force a compatibility tool, and choose Proton Experimental.
- Use a launcher route if the Steam build does not start. In Desktop Mode, install the launcher through a supported method such as Heroic or NonSteamLaunchers, then add the installed launcher or game executable to Steam as a non-Steam game.
- Apply Proton to the added entry. Return to the non-Steam shortcut’s Properties > Compatibility page and select Proton Experimental before launching.
- Sign in with the account tied to your Endfield progress. Gryphline says the Steam release supports cross-platform account synchronization, but an incorrect account choice can make progress appear missing.
- Retest after updates. Game patches, Proton releases and launcher changes can alter startup or performance. Recheck the compatibility setting rather than assuming a previous configuration remains optimal.
Recommended graphics and performance settings
Start with the tested baseline
Use the configuration documented by Steam Deck HQ as your first pass:
- Graphics preset: Very Low
- Frame-rate cap: 60fps
- Compatibility tool: Proton Experimental
Watch frame pacing in crowded or effects-heavy areas instead of judging performance from a quiet menu. A nominal 60fps counter is less useful if frametimes spike whenever the game streams new assets or renders a busy encounter.
When to choose 40fps or 30fps
If 60fps is unstable, lower the cap rather than leaving the game uncapped. A 40fps cap pairs naturally with OLED’s 90Hz panel and can provide steadier pacing; a 30fps cap is the safer choice when battery life matters more than responsiveness. No controlled Endfield test establishes exactly how many minutes either cap saves, so use the Deck’s live power and battery readouts to judge your own result.
Do not raise settings to solve a display problem
OLED’s contrast and HDR can make the image look better without increasing the Very Low preset. Raising quality settings increases GPU work and may worsen dips or battery drain. First establish a stable cap, then increase one visual setting at a time if you have headroom.
Storage and microSD expansion
Plan for roughly 90GB of free space during installation because Gryphline specifies 50GB for the game plus another 40GB for extraction. The exact final installed size can change with patches and temporary files.
Best Value
- 512 GB NVMe SSD: Fast storage for quicker game load times and space for larger game libraries.
- OLED Display: 1200x800 resolution with deep contrasts and vibrant colors for a captivating visual experience.
- Custom AMD APU: Power-efficient Zen 2 CPU and RDNA 2 GPU for desktop-level gaming performance.
- Expandable Storage: Add more space with a microSD card slot, ensuring you can bring even more games with you.
- Versatile Controls: With built-in thumbsticks, trackpads, and touchscreen controls, you have full control over your gaming experience.
Both Deck revisions support UHS-I microSD cards. A card is useful when the internal drive cannot accommodate Endfield alongside other large games, but it is a capacity solution, not a way to increase GPU performance or frame rate. Leave additional free space for updates so a nearly full card does not turn a routine patch into an installation failure.
OLED or LCD: which choice makes sense?
| Your situation | Better choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You already own an LCD and want more Endfield FPS | Keep the LCD | The cited hardware specifications do not show an OLED GPU advantage. |
| You play Endfield unplugged for long sessions | OLED | The larger battery, more efficient platform and lower-power display are its strongest benefits. |
| You value HDR, contrast and a 45fps presentation | OLED | The 90Hz HDR OLED panel offers display capabilities unavailable on the 60Hz LCD. |
| You want the least setup friction | Check current support before buying | Compatibility labels and launcher behavior are changing, and neither model is guaranteed plug-and-play by the cited status. |
| You are comparing upgrade cost from an LCD | Depends on local pricing | No current upgrade price is established in the cited material; pay for OLED features, not expected Endfield frame-rate gains. |
Troubleshooting the most likely problems
The game will not launch
Confirm that the shortcut is using Proton Experimental, then verify the game files or launcher installation. If you are using a non-Steam shortcut, check that Steam points to the actual installed executable rather than an installer.
Performance drops in busy areas
Keep Very Low settings, confirm the 60fps cap and observe frame pacing outside menus. If dips persist, try a 40fps or 30fps cap. Moving from LCD to OLED is not a performance fix because the listed GPU configuration is the same.

Measure free space before retrying, including the additional extraction requirement. Move another game or use a UHS-I microSD card, then leave room for future patches.
Progress appears absent after changing launchers
Sign in with the same Endfield account used on your other platform. The Steam release supports cross-platform synchronization, but a different account can present an empty or new profile.
Verdict
For Endfield performance alone, Steam Deck OLED and LCD are effectively tied. The OLED is worth choosing for its battery endurance, HDR contrast and 90Hz flexibility, while an existing LCD owner should not expect an upgrade in frames. Start at Very Low with Proton Experimental and a 60fps cap, keep approximately 90GB available for installation, and treat the current Steam Deck compatibility status as changeable rather than guaranteed.
