Yes, but only optionally and only in a limited way. Lotus Apps says Bobara uses a coarse location while the app is in use to request local weather from Apple WeatherKit. If you deny location access, the developer says the sky remains clear and Bobara does not ask again. There is no published Bobara accuracy percentage, back-test or independent validation study, so its forecasts should be treated as a weather-powered visual feature rather than a proven address-level forecasting service.
What Bobara does with local weather
Bobara is an entertainment app from Lotus Apps, LLC for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Its character, Momo, follows local conditions in an onsen scene: rain, snow, wind and thunderstorms can appear in the display. Home Screen widgets and an Apple Watch complication extend that scene beyond the main app.

The app also has a separate collection loop: you log boba teas you actually bought. Weather is therefore part of the atmosphere around the collection, not the app’s primary scientific purpose. If you enjoy the collecting mechanic, an optional boba tea kit can give you drinks to make and record; the kit is unrelated to the weather data and is not required to use Bobara.
Lotus Apps has described Bobara as a planned $4.99 one-time purchase, with a planned release date of November 9, 2026. The App Store listing covers iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Availability and exact behavior can change before release, so those details should be read as the developer’s stated plan rather than a guarantee that every feature is already available.

Does Bobara use your location?
It can. The developer’s case study says, “If you allow it, the sky follows your real weather through Apple’s WeatherKit, using a coarse location only while the app is in use.” In practical terms, Bobara needs permission to identify a general area, then uses that area to request weather conditions. The documented design is foreground use of a coarse location, not a continuously recorded, precise GPS trail.
“While the app is in use” is an important limitation. The available description does not say that Bobara continually collects your position in the background, builds a travel history or follows you between places. It also does not publish a background-refresh schedule for widgets or the watch complication. Do not infer one from normal iOS behavior; the public material does not establish how often those surfaces update.
What happens when you allow access
When you grant location permission, Bobara can request a coarse location during active use and pass that context to Apple WeatherKit for the weather visual. The developer’s wording does not promise street-level precision, a fixed radius or a particular update interval. It tells you the type of location used and when it is used, but not a numerical accuracy specification.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat happens when you decline
Lotus Apps says, “If you decline, the sky stays clear and the app doesn’t ask again.” That means declining permission is not described as switching Bobara to a manually selected city or a last-known location. The documented fallback is a clear sky, so weather animation should not be treated as evidence that the app has found you by another method.

Can Bobara track where you are?
Based on the developer’s description, Bobara can access a coarse location while you are using it, but there is no stated continuous background tracking. That is narrower than an app that requests Always permission or records a route. At the same time, a developer description is not an independent technical audit. The App Store privacy label reports “Data Not Collected,” but Apple states that these privacy disclosures are supplied by the developer and have not been verified by Apple. The label and the case study should therefore be read together: the documented feature uses coarse foreground location, while the precise retention and processing details are not independently confirmed.
How to check or change Bobara’s location permission
You can review the permission without deleting the app. iOS menu names can vary slightly by version, but the path is generally:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Privacy & Security, then Location Services.
- Select Bobara.
- Choose the available permission that matches your preference, such as Never, Ask Next Time Or When I Share or While Using the App.
- If iOS shows a Precise Location switch, remember that Bobara’s documented behavior is to use a coarse location. Turning precision on does not establish that Bobara will use a precise coordinate.
If you previously tapped Don’t Allow, the case study says Bobara will not ask again. Re-enable access from Settings if you want the weather scene to follow local conditions. If you leave Location Services disabled for Bobara, expect the documented clear-sky behavior rather than a guaranteed manual-location mode.

Bobara identifies Apple WeatherKit as its weather provider. That tells you where the weather data comes from, but it does not by itself tell you how close a forecast will be to your front door. WeatherKit is a service; Bobara’s location permission, request timing, display logic and update behavior still determine what you see in the app.

No source reviewed for Bobara publishes a forecast score, station comparison, historical back-test, error range or independent accuracy study. There is also no stated guarantee for refresh frequency. Consequently, a precise claim such as “Bobara is accurate to X percent” would be unsupported. The defensible conclusion is that Bobara provides a local-weather-themed display backed by WeatherKit, while its performance at a particular address remains unquantified.
Why the weather outside can differ from Bobara
A forecast is an estimate for an area and time, not a live instrument at every address. The Bureau of Meteorology explains that forecasts can be delivered on grids as large as 6 kilometers. Two phones that are physically close can fall into different grid cells, and the selected location may be identified through GPS or an IP address. A grid value can therefore differ from what is happening in your yard, on your street or on the other side of a hill.
Short, localized rain
Showers and thunderstorms can form and dissipate over a small area. One neighborhood may receive heavy rain while another nearby neighborhood remains dry. A weather service can correctly represent the broader pattern while missing the exact path of a narrow shower. Bobara’s animated rain is a visual representation of the returned condition, not proof that every point around you is wet.

Mountains, valleys, coastlines and elevation changes alter wind, temperature and precipitation. A forecast grid averages conditions over an area that may include substantially different terrain. Your balcony, trail or street can therefore feel different from the value associated with the grid location.

Observation stations are not your address
The Bureau also notes that an observation station can be up to 100 kilometers from the selected forecast location. A station report describes conditions at that instrument; it is not automatically the forecast for your exact position. Comparing Bobara with a distant airport station can make the app appear wrong even when the two sources are describing different places.
Timing and update uncertainty
Conditions can change faster than an app surface refreshes. The public Bobara information does not establish a guaranteed refresh interval for the app, widgets or complication. If the scene lags behind a rapidly changing storm, that may reflect timing, location selection or forecast resolution rather than a measured failure rate. There is not enough published information to assign one cause in every case.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the available accuracy evidence does—and does not—show
A NOAA-repository study from 2024 provides useful context about how people interpret weather-app forecasts, but it is not a Bobara test. In that survey, 51.5% of respondents thought an app forecast covered their town, while 22.3% thought it covered their specific location. Among respondents who observed rain nearby, 71.3% called the forecast accurate and 19.2% called it neither accurate nor inaccurate.
Those figures describe user judgments and expectations, not WeatherKit’s numerical skill and not Bobara’s animation logic. They help explain why a forecast can feel wrong at one address even when users consider it broadly right for their town. They should not be converted into a Bobara accuracy percentage.

Permission states at a glance
| Location setting | Documented Bobara result |
|---|---|
| Permission granted | Bobara can use a coarse location while the app is in use to follow local weather through Apple WeatherKit. |

| Background tracking | No continuous background trail is described in the available public information. |
| Forecast accuracy | No Bobara-specific percentage, back-test or independent validation study is published. |
What to do when Bobara’s weather looks wrong
- Check the selected permission. Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Bobara and confirm that the app has the access you intend.
- Use Bobara in the foreground. The documented location request occurs while the app is in use. Open the main app before judging whether the scene reflects your current area.
- Verify the location source. If your device is using an IP-based estimate, a VPN, a corporate network or a weak GPS fix can associate you with a broader or different area. The Bobara materials do not specify which method will be selected in each situation.
- Compare like with like. Check a current observation or forecast for the same town or grid area, not only a station many kilometers away. Expect the greatest differences during isolated showers, thunderstorms or strong terrain effects.
- Re-enable access manually if you previously declined. Because the developer says Bobara does not ask again after a denial, changing the setting in the app is not the documented recovery path.
- Do not assume a widget or complication is live. No public Bobara source gives a refresh guarantee. A delayed visual cannot be used to calculate forecast accuracy.
Privacy questions worth keeping separate from accuracy
Location privacy and forecast quality are related but different decisions. Granting a coarse foreground location lets Bobara request weather for your area; it does not prove that the resulting forecast will be accurate at your address. Conversely, a forecast mismatch does not prove that Bobara has collected a detailed location history.
The strongest public privacy statements are the developer’s case-study wording and the App Store label reporting no data collected. The label is self-reported, and the available information does not provide a complete privacy-policy summary or an independent audit. If your standard is verifiable retention, deletion and sharing behavior, those details are not established by the published material and should not be inferred.
Bottom line: useful atmosphere, unmeasured precision
Bobara does use your location when you grant permission, but the documented use is limited to a coarse location while the app is open. Apple WeatherKit supplies the weather data, and refusing access leaves the sky clear rather than switching to a documented manual place. The app may be perfectly suitable as a weather-responsive companion to its boba collection, yet there is no Bobara-specific evidence to support a numerical accuracy claim. Treat its rain, snow, wind and storm scenes as a localized forecast display, and use a dedicated weather source for decisions that depend on exact timing or conditions at one address.
