No. Climbey does not require Steam Frame eye tracking—or eye tracking of any kind—to play. The Steam listing specifies a SteamVR setup with tracked controllers. Eye tracking is an optional multiplayer visual feature, and the developer’s stated setup requires Climbey to be streamed through Steam Link.
What you need to play Climbey
Climbey is listed on Steam as a VR-only game with tracked-controller support and standing or room-scale play. The store page does not list eye tracking or Steam Frame as a requirement, and it does not specify a particular headset model.
Steam’s published PC requirements are:

What Climbey eye tracking adds
The developer described eye tracking as an optional way to give players animated eyes in multiplayer using eye-tracking data passed through SteamVR Link OSC. Does eye tracking work on Steam Frame?
The developer’s December 24, 2025 announcement said multiplayer eye tracking would then work only when Climbey was streamed through Steam Link, adding that Steam Frame did not itself broadcast the relevant OSC data at that time. It mentioned Meta Quest Pro and Play For Dream MR as possible sources of eye-tracking passthrough, while leaving other headset combinations uncertain.
A developer update dated October 2, 2026 says Climbey added support for eye-openness via OSC. The surfaced update does not say whether Steam Frame itself now broadcasts the data needed for the multiplayer feature. That update therefore does not establish that native Steam Frame eye tracking works in Climbey; check for a newer developer statement if that specific setup matters.

Steam Frame native play is a separate matter
The developer also reported adding Steam Frame controller bindings and performance adjustments for native play. Under the described configuration, the developer reported generally maintaining 90 fps at approximately 40–50% resolution. This is a developer report, not a guarantee across devices or levels: demanding community-created levels may become CPU-limited and run worse.

- Install VIVE software and connect the VIVE Pro Eye headset.
- Launch SR_Runtime, then start SteamVR.
- Open VIVE Pro Eye from the in-headset dashboard and accept the license.
- In the dashboard, enable eye tracking and choose Calibrate.
- Fit the headset, adjust the IPD, and follow the calibration dot.
