No documented YouTube policy says deleting a channel resets its live-streaming eligibility. YouTube’s guidance sets eligibility by requirements such as channel verification and having no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. It does not specify exactly how eligibility history carries over in every case when someone deletes a channel and creates another, so deletion is not a reliable or documented way to clear a restriction.
What YouTube’s rules establish
YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube also says streamers must be at least 16. YouTube separately prohibits using another channel to live stream while an account is restricted. It describes that as circumvention and warns that it may result in account termination. Deleting a channel and trying to stream from another one should not be treated as a workaround. See YouTube Help: Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming.
What deleting a channel does—and what remains uncertain
Hiding and permanently deleting a channel are different actions. Hiding makes channel content private and can be reversed by re-enabling the channel. Permanent deletion removes channel content and may be difficult to recover; completion can take time. Deleting a YouTube channel does not delete the Google Account used to sign in. YouTube’s published guidance does not explain exactly how a permanently deleted channel’s live-stream eligibility history applies to a newly created channel in every account-specific case. That is an unresolved detail—not evidence that deletion will either clear or definitely preserve eligibility in every circumstance. Do not delete a channel on the assumption that it will restore live streaming.
Check the restriction before taking action
- Review the current channel’s live-stream status in YouTube Studio. Identify whether YouTube has applied a live-stream restriction and follow the notice and any appeal instructions shown there.
- Check the relevant eligibility conditions. Confirm the channel is verified and consider whether it has had a live-streaming restriction during the previous 90 days, as described in YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance.
- Do not delete videos to try to remove a strike. YouTube says deleting videos does not clear strikes; a strike on an active or archived live stream may disable live-stream access. See Changes to account standing.
- Wait for the stated restriction period or use YouTube’s appeal process. Do not use another channel to stream while an account-level restriction is active.
Mobile streaming has additional requirements
The mobile-specific rules are not general requirements for every streaming method. YouTube’s mobile guidance lists at least 50 subscribers, channel verification, no live-stream restrictions during the previous 90 days, and enabling live streaming. After eligibility is restored: keeping a YouTube stream running
