No—not as Dolby Atmos headphone output from PS5, according to the published support paths. Sony documents Dolby Atmos output for compatible HDMI audio devices, while PS5 headphones have a separate 3D Audio setting. For an Astro A50, use the console’s headphone 3D Audio option rather than treating Atmos as an A50 setting.
What PS5 Dolby Atmos supports
Sony’s Dolby Atmos instructions direct users to Settings > Sound > Audio Output > Audio Format (Priority) > Dolby Atmos for a compatible HDMI-connected device, such as a soundbar, TV, or home theater system. Sony describes Tempest 3D AudioTech rendering audio to the Dolby Atmos device in use, including overhead channels. Dolby’s PS5 guidance also frames Atmos around HDMI audio devices. How to enable spatial audio for Astro A50 headphones
Use PS5’s headphone-specific 3D Audio controls:
- Open Settings > Sound > 3D Audio (Headphones).
- Create a personalized 3D audio profile by listening to the sounds from different positions and angles, or select one of the available presets.
- Follow the current console prompts; wording can change with system updates.

Which A50 generation and connection do you have?
“Astro A50” covers several generations, and accessory compatibility depends on the base station. Match the headset generation to the feature you need:

For Gen 3 or Gen 4, consider the adapter only if you need its optical/Game:Voice function. It is not required to enable headphone 3D Audio.
Headphone audio versus an HDMI Atmos system
The key distinction is the output device and connection. With an A50 headset, the relevant PS5 setting is 3D Audio for headphones. If you want Dolby Atmos through a compatible soundbar, TV, or home theater system connected over HDMI, use the console’s Dolby Atmos audio-format setting instead. What the headset connection guidance establishes
Sony’s PS5 FAQ says headset 3D Audio can be experienced with a PS5-compatible headset connected by USB or an analog headset plugged into the DualSense controller’s 3.5 mm jack. The FAQ also discusses Dolby Atmos and DTS:X for Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray disc video when connected to a supported device. That FAQ dates to 2020, before the later PS5 Dolby Atmos update, so it is useful for the distinction between headset connections and disc audio—not as a complete current list of system audio formats.
