Ordinary bullet or projectile weapons are described as dealing twice their normal damage per shot, while the perk also increases their rate of fire.
That does not mean every weapon in every mode gets double damage. Most Wonder Weapons and all explosives are described as receiving the fire-rate benefit without the projectile-damage benefit, and the Blundergat is specifically treated as an exception that needs separate verification.

The short answer: Double Tap 2.0 does increase damage
In Black Ops II Zombies, the perk is Double Tap 2.0, not merely the original Double Tap. Its two important effects are:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

- It increases the weapon’s rate of fire.
- It doubles the damage dealt by projectile rounds in effect.
For a normal bullet weapon, that means each qualifying projectile is worth twice the usual damage before the faster firing speed is considered. Because the weapon also fires more quickly, the total damage you can produce over time rises for two separate reasons: each shot is stronger and more shots can be fired in the same period.

The wording matters. The reliable claim is that Double Tap 2.0 doubles projectile-round damage. Saying that it doubles the damage of every weapon in the game is too broad for the mechanic described by the available references.
What changed from the original Double Tap?
The original Double Tap perk is generally described as a fire-rate perk. In other words, it made a weapon shoot faster but did not add the projectile-damage effect associated with the Black Ops II version.
Black Ops II introduced the revised form, Double Tap 2.0. The “2.0” name is important because it identifies the version that adds the damage behavior. If you are remembering an earlier Zombies map or an older game, your memory of Double Tap may correctly be “faster firing only.” That description does not fully describe the Black Ops II Zombies perk.

| Perk version or weapon group | Rate-of-fire effect | Projectile-damage effect |
|---|---|---|
| Original Double Tap | Increased | Not part of the original effect |
| Double Tap 2.0 on qualifying projectile weapons | Increased | Projectile damage is doubled |
| Most Wonder Weapons | Increased | Generally excluded from the projectile-damage effect |
| Explosives | Increased | Excluded from the projectile-damage effect |
This comparison is about the Zombies perk mechanic. It should not be applied automatically to multiplayer, the campaign, or another Call of Duty title.
What “double damage” means in practice
“Double damage” refers to the damage value attached to qualifying projectile hits. It is not a promise that every visible number, every enemy interaction, or every special weapon behavior will be exactly twice what you saw without the perk.

Bullet and projectile weapons
For ordinary firearms that use projectile rounds, the practical model is straightforward: a qualifying shot receives twice the normal projectile damage, and the weapon fires faster. A weapon that normally needs several hits to defeat a zombie can therefore require fewer successful hits, while the faster cycle also lets you clear groups more quickly.
The effect is easiest to understand when you separate two measurements:
- Damage per projectile: the amount of damage assigned to one qualifying round is doubled.
- Damage over time: the weapon can deliver those stronger rounds at a higher firing rate.
Do not turn that explanation into an invented universal percentage for the fire-rate increase. The references establish that the rate of fire rises, but they do not provide a single figure that applies to every weapon in every situation.
Most Wonder Weapons
The available perk descriptions say that most Wonder Weapons receive the fire-rate increase without receiving the projectile-damage increase. That is why “Double Tap doubles Wonder Weapon damage” is not a safe general answer.
Wonder Weapons often use unusual projectile, blast, or special-effect systems rather than ordinary bullet damage. The category label alone is not enough to predict how one specific weapon behaves. If you are testing a particular Wonder Weapon, treat its result as a weapon-specific case instead of assuming the normal firearm rule.

Explosives
Explosives are also described as receiving the rate-of-fire benefit without the projectile-damage benefit. A faster reload or firing cycle can still make an explosive weapon more useful, but Double Tap 2.0 should not be represented as doubling its explosion damage.

The reference material specifically identifies the Blundergat as an exception. That warning is useful because it prevents a category-based shortcut: you cannot determine every special weapon’s result simply by calling it a Wonder Weapon, a projectile weapon, or an explosive.
If your question is about the Blundergat or another named weapon, verify that weapon’s behavior directly in the Black Ops II Zombies version you are playing. The broad Double Tap 2.0 rule is well established, but a complete weapon-by-weapon exception list is not supplied here.
Does it increase damage or only make the gun shoot faster?
In Black Ops II Zombies, it does both for qualifying projectile weapons. The “only shoots faster” answer describes the older Double Tap effect, not the full Double Tap 2.0 mechanic.
This distinction explains many contradictory answers. A player may remember the original perk, while another player is describing the Black Ops II version. Both statements can sound plausible until the game and perk version are identified. For this title, the accurate shorthand is:

- Brand New in box. The product ships with all relevant accessories
Double Tap 2.0 = faster firing plus doubled projectile damage, with weapon-category exceptions.
Does it make every shot twice as powerful?
Only when “every shot” means a qualifying projectile round. The damage effect is not described as a universal multiplier for every attack type.
Use these boundaries when interpreting the perk:
- For standard projectile weapons, the described damage effect applies.
- For most Wonder Weapons, the described benefit is rate of fire rather than doubled damage.
- For explosives, the described benefit is rate of fire rather than doubled damage.
- For exceptional weapons such as the Blundergat, do not infer the result without checking that weapon specifically.
These boundaries are more accurate than saying either “Double Tap doubles everything” or “Double Tap never increases damage.”

If you want to confirm what happens with a particular weapon, compare the same weapon before and after buying Double Tap 2.0. A controlled comparison is more useful than relying on a changing round, a different hit location, or a different weapon attachment.
- Choose a standard projectile weapon. Start with an ordinary firearm rather than an explosive or Wonder Weapon, because the normal projectile rule is the clearest baseline.
- Use the same weapon configuration. Keep the weapon, ammunition type, Pack-a-Punch state, and other relevant settings unchanged between observations.
- Record a baseline without Double Tap 2.0. Fire at comparable targets and note how many hits are required. Keep hit location consistent; body and head hits should not be mixed when you are trying to compare damage.
- Buy Double Tap 2.0. Repeat the same test against comparable targets at the same general distance and with the same aiming pattern.
- Separate damage from firing speed. Count the hits needed to defeat a target, then separately observe how quickly the weapon can fire. A shorter time to defeat an enemy can come from stronger projectiles, a faster firing cycle, or both.
- Repeat unusual results. If the weapon behaves differently from the standard rule, test it again and identify whether it is a special weapon or an exception. Do not generalize one unusual weapon’s result to the entire perk.
This method will show how a specific weapon behaves in your match, but it does not establish a universal weapon table. Enemy health, hit location, weapon upgrades, and special attack rules can all affect what you observe.

Common mistakes when answering the question
Confusing Double Tap with Double Tap 2.0
The most common mistake is answering from the original perk’s behavior. If the game is Black Ops II Zombies, name the perk as Double Tap 2.0 and include its projectile-damage effect.
Calling the effect a universal damage multiplier
“All weapons do double damage” is too strong. The stated effect is tied to projectile rounds, while most Wonder Weapons and explosives are excluded from the damage portion.
Assuming faster firing means higher damage per shot
A weapon can produce more damage over time simply because it fires more rapidly. That is a different claim from doubling the damage of each projectile. Double Tap 2.0 is notable because qualifying projectile weapons receive both effects.
Using one special weapon as proof of the general rule
Wonder Weapons and named exceptions do not provide a safe basis for describing ordinary firearms. Test or cite the exact weapon when the question is weapon-specific.
Applying the Zombies rule to another mode
The mechanic discussed here is the Black Ops II Zombies perk. It is not a statement about how a similarly named perk behaves in multiplayer, campaign gameplay, or another Call of Duty release.
What the available references establish—and what they do not
Community-maintained references consistently describe the central Black Ops II Zombies mechanic: Double Tap 2.0 increases firing speed and adds a twofold projectile-damage effect. A separate perk summary also describes the Black Ops II and Black Ops III version in terms of two bullets per shot, which supports the distinction from the older fire-rate-only perk.
Those references are useful game documentation, but they are not an official Treyarch technical guide or a complete set of extracted weapon data. They do not provide one authoritative fire-rate percentage for every weapon, nor do they establish a definitive damage table for every special case. That is why a precise answer should state the general rule and qualify weapon-specific exceptions.
Bottom line for a Black Ops II Zombies player
Buy Double Tap 2.0 when you want both faster firing and stronger qualifying projectile hits. For ordinary bullet weapons, the projectile damage is described as doubled, so the perk does increase damage—not merely rate of fire. Keep the qualification in mind: most Wonder Weapons and all explosives are described as receiving only the firing-speed benefit, and the Blundergat is flagged as an exception. The answer applies to Black Ops II Zombies, not automatically to every mode or every game.
