That answer is an inference from Bungie’s general rule that glaive melee does not benefit from weapon-damage buffs; Bungie’s cited guidance does not name Frenzy specifically. Glaive projectiles can benefit from weapon-damage buffs, so the melee and projectile attacks can interact differently.
Why Frenzy does not apply to glaive melee
Bungie describes glaive melee as a basic melee attack rather than a weapon attack. It does not consume ammo and deals Kinetic damage. Bungie’s stated design rule is that weapon-damage buffs should not affect glaive melee, while glaive projectiles should receive those buffs. Its examples include Rampage, Kill Clip, and Swashbuckler—not Frenzy. Applying that rule to Frenzy supports the answer above, but it is not a Frenzy-specific confirmation from Bungie.

Bungie’s April 21, 2022 glaive guidance explains that allowing weapon-damage buffs to affect the ammo-free melee attack would be too powerful, particularly in PvP. The distinction is between the attack types: a glaive’s projectile is a weapon attack, while its melee swing is not.
What changed for glaive melee in 2025?
Bungie later classified glaive melee as a type of unpowered melee ability. It can receive damage increases that apply to unpowered melee abilities, but Bungie also said it would no longer benefit from some weapon-damage bonuses, giving Radiant as an example. The change does not make the melee swing a weapon attack or establish that Frenzy boosts it.

Bungie’s June 19, 2025 update also adjusted glaive melee damage in PvE by enemy class:
| Enemy class | 2025 glaive melee damage adjustment |
|---|---|
| Minors and majors | Reduced by 40% |
| Champions and minibosses | Reduced by 28.5% |
| Bosses and vehicles | Reduced by 50% |
These are PvE melee adjustments from the update, not Frenzy damage values. Bungie lists the changes in its Destiny 2 Update 9.0.0.1 notes.

How to apply the rule in practice
- Glaive melee: Do not expect Frenzy, as a weapon-damage buff, to increase its damage. Applicable melee-damage effects may work under the updated unpowered-melee classification.
- Glaive projectile: Weapon-damage buffs can apply to the projectile attack.
