Yes. Gears of War: Reloaded supports cross-play between Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC players on Steam. You can play the two-player campaign co-op or join Versus matches with up to eight players across those platforms. A Microsoft account is not required for basic cross-play; signing in adds cross-platform parties and invites, plus cross-progression.
Which platforms can play together?
Xbox lists Gears of War: Reloaded for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam. Its cross-play explanation says players on Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam can play together. Which modes support cross-play?
- Campaign: Two-player co-op.
- Versus Multiplayer: Matches can include up to eight players.
Xbox’s launch-day description applies cross-play to both playing the campaign together and teaming up in Versus Multiplayer. The eight-player figure is the mode’s stated maximum, not a promise that every match will have eight players.
Do you need a Microsoft account?
No Microsoft account is required for basic cross-play. However, Xbox says signing in with one enables cross-platform parties and invites and carries campaign and multiplayer progress across devices. In other words, cross-play lets platforms play together; account sign-in adds the tools for arranging cross-platform sessions and keeping progress in sync. The Coalition’s May 2025 announcement likewise says players can squad up across platforms without a Microsoft account.

Does cross-progression work across platforms?
Xbox says campaign and multiplayer progress carries across devices when you are signed in with a Microsoft account. PlayStation’s product page separately confirms campaign-save progression across platforms, but does not specify the account condition in the information reviewed there. Does PS5 online play require PlayStation Plus?
Yes. PlayStation states that online console multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus, sold separately. This is the stated requirement for online play on PS5; it should not be read as a requirement for Xbox or PC players. Check the PlayStation product page for the console subscription terms.

Is it available on Game Pass, and what does it cost?
Xbox Wire’s August 26, 2025 launch article listed a $39.99 suggested retail price and PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate availability at launch. Those are launch-era details, not confirmation of today’s store price or subscription catalog. Check your platform’s store for current pricing and availability.
