There is no official confirmation that changing your Xbox region to New Zealand unlocked DOOM: The Dark Ages early. Bethesda announced that Premium Edition early access would begin at 00:00 UTC on May 13, 2025, ahead of the general launch on May 15. That schedule does not establish whether a region change affected any particular Xbox account or store configuration.
What Bethesda announced about the launch
Bethesda listed May 15, 2025, as the game’s launch date and advertised Premium Edition access up to two days early. Its pre-launch checklist said early access would roll out “starting midnight UTC on May 13.” Bethesda’s launch announcement and pre-launch checklist describe the published schedule, not a New Zealand-region workaround.
Did changing the Xbox region make it playable sooner?
The official sources available for this title do not say that switching an Xbox console’s region to New Zealand advanced the unlock time. Nor do they provide account-by-account results that would establish whether the tactic worked in some configurations. The existence of a New Zealand Xbox store listing confirms regional availability, but a localized store page alone does not prove that changing a console’s region changed access timing.
The careful answer is therefore: the New Zealand trick is unconfirmed for DOOM: The Dark Ages. Bethesda’s UTC-based schedule is the clearest official timing information, but it cannot prove that every Xbox account unlocked at the same instant or that no region-specific behavior occurred.
