No. In Minecraft, glowstone dust makes certain potions more potent; redstone dust is the usual ingredient for extending a potion’s duration.

What glowstone dust does to a potion

For supported potions, glowstone dust increases the effect’s potency, producing a stronger variant. The trade-off is usually a shorter duration than the unmodified potion. Not every potion accepts a glowstone modifier, and effects without level variants or a time parameter can be exceptions to that general trade-off. The exact result depends on the potion and game edition. Minecraft Wiki’s brewing reference describes these modifier rules.

What to use for a longer-lasting potion

Use redstone dust when your goal is to extend a potion’s duration. Minecraft’s official Taking Inventory: Redstone Dust, by Duncan Geere and published April 26, 2025, notes redstone’s role in extending potion duration.

Ingredient Effect for supported potions Choose it when
Redstone dust Extends duration You want the effect to last longer
Glowstone dust Increases potency; the stronger version usually lasts less time You want a stronger effect

These modifiers ordinarily cannot be combined on the same potion to get both an extended duration and an enhanced effect. Check the specific potion and your game edition rather than assuming every potion can use either modifier or that all durations are the same.
