Haze resets stat changes on both sides of the field, so it removes your Pokémon’s boosts and debuffs as well as the opponent’s. That makes it useful against setup, but it can also erase advantages you have built.
What Haze resets
Haze clears stat stages across the field; it does not target only the opposing Pokémon. If your Pokémon has raised its stats, those boosts are cleared when Haze is used. Your own lowered stats are cleared too, alongside the opponent’s boosts or debuffs. Wolfe Glick’s VGC Guide utility-move guide describes Haze as affecting both sides and notes that it can remove your own debuffs as well as an opponent’s boosts. StrategyWiki likewise cautions that Haze removes the user’s stat changes (Pokémon/Competitive battling/Moves).
When using Haze is worth the tradeoff
Haze is an anti-setup move: it can undo an opponent’s accumulated stat boosts, but only by resetting your side’s changes at the same time. The VGC Guide discusses using a bulky Pokémon that can withstand attacks and then reset the field, with Tapu Fini and Dusclops as examples. Consider whether stopping the opponent’s setup is worth losing your own boosts before you use it.
Alternatives if you want to preserve your boosts
Clear Smog
Game8’s move reference distinguishes Clear Smog, which removes the target’s stat changes, from Haze, which clears changes across the field (Best Utility Moves). A target-only reset may be preferable when you want to keep your own stat stages. Its availability and interactions depend on the game.

Forced switching
Roar, Whirlwind, Dragon Tail, and Circle Throw can undo an opponent’s stat changes by making the target switch out, according to the VGC Guide. These moves have different tactical constraints from Haze: they nearly always move last, and the guide notes that they fail against Dynamax Pokémon in the formats it discusses. Check the relevant game and format before relying on that interaction.

The field-wide reset is the key distinction to remember, but move details and availability can vary by game, generation, and battle format. Game8’s references here include Pokémon Champions, while the forced-switch and strategic examples come from a competitive guide. Do not assume every listed interaction applies in every Pokémon game.
