Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare contains a reported nod to the original Modern Warfare trilogy, but the available evidence does not confirm that both series share the same canon. The clue is the Retribution’s designation, SWC-141: a reference to Task Force 141, not by itself proof that the earlier games’ events happened in Infinite Warfare’s story.
What is the SWC-141 easter egg?
A 2016 Tech Times article reported that the campaign ship Retribution carries the designation SWC-141. The article expanded SWC as “Space Warship Carrier” and said an accompanying poster explained that Russia recommended the number to commemorate Task Force 141’s rescue of Russian President Boris Vorshevsky in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Tech Times’ October 5, 2016 report is the source for that poster explanation; the poster’s full wording is not independently verified here, so it should not be treated as a confirmed verbatim quotation.
The number 141 makes the connection recognizable: it points to the special-operations unit central to the original Modern Warfare trilogy. That is strong evidence of a deliberate reference or homage. It does not, on its own, establish that the trilogy’s events are part of Infinite Warfare’s continuity.
Does the reference confirm a shared universe?
No—not on the evidence reported. Tech Times framed the clue as confirmation of a shared universe, but that conclusion goes beyond the artifact described in its article. A fictional ship name can acknowledge another game without placing both games’ stories in one canon.

Contemporary coverage offers useful context, but not a direct ruling on this easter egg. GameSpot reported on May 3, 2016 that Infinity Ward narrative director Taylor Kurosaki described Infinite Warfare as a new Call of Duty “sub-franchise.” That framing cautions against assuming continuity from a franchise reference; the report does not say Kurosaki specifically addressed SWC-141 or declared the original trilogy non-canon. GameSpot’s report therefore should not be presented as a direct debunking of the clue’s implications.
Which Modern Warfare continuity does this refer to?
The reported SWC-141 explanation points to the original trilogy, specifically the events of Modern Warfare 3. It should not be confused with the separate Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot released in 2019. Activision’s 2020 recap describes that reboot’s story universe, including characters such as Price and Ghost; it is a different continuity distinction from the older trilogy referenced by the easter egg. Activision’s recap covers the reboot’s story.

What is established about Infinite Warfare?
Activision lists Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare as released on November 4, 2016, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies modes. Those details identify the game and its launch platforms; they do not settle the canon question. Activision’s product page provides the official product information.
Activision also described a launch-era promotional Messenger experience in which fans exchanged more than 6 million messages with Lt. Reyes in its first 24 hours. That statistic relates to the game’s interactive marketing, not to whether its universe overlaps with the original Modern Warfare trilogy. Activision’s account of the reveal gives the promotional context.
