How to start Hardcore Mode
Choose Hardcore Mode when starting a new playthrough. PLAION’s version 1.2.4 patch notes say the update introduced the option to start a new playthrough in Hardcore Mode; the available official information describes it as a new-run choice, not an option to switch an existing save over mid-playthrough. At the beginning of that run, select at least three permanent negative perks. Because those penalties are permanent, consider whether you want the added challenge before committing to the mode.
Is Hardcore just a harder setting?
No. It raises the challenge, but it also changes how you navigate and read combat. With no player marker, cardinal directions, or fast travel, getting around requires more attention to the world; without perfect-block icons and directional aids, combat provides less on-screen guidance.
