If you die in a lava pool, dropped ancient debris should remain there to collect after you respawn.
What happens to ancient debris in lava?
Minecraft describes ancient debris as fireproof. Its item entry also says that dropped ancient debris floats on lava and is immune to fire. So lava will not destroy the dropped item, though you may still need to reach it safely to retrieve it.
The game calls the material ancient debris, not “netherite debris.” Ancient debris is found in the Nether and can be smelted into Netherite scrap, which is used to make Netherite ingots.
Does this apply to the block or the dropped item?
They are different forms of the same material. The dropped item is the form that matters if you lose loot in lava; the placed ancient-debris block is also reported not to catch fire from lava. Minecraft’s official article specifically confirms that the dropped item remains available after a player dies in lava.

Is ancient debris the same as Netherite equipment?
No. Ancient debris is a raw material, while Netherite equipment and other Netherite items are separate items. Minecraft’s 2020 Nether Update announcement says Netherite items float in lava, but that statement should not be confused with the item-specific confirmation about ancient debris.
Version and server considerations
The cited descriptions establish the general behavior, not a compatibility guarantee for every Minecraft edition, version, mod, or server configuration. If you are playing on a modified server or with gameplay-changing mods, check that setup’s rules before relying on the item surviving lava.
