What Rockstar confirms about Red Dead Online
Rockstar has acknowledged unauthorized PC mod menus being used to send fake Rockstar-branded chat messages in Red Dead Online. The company said it fixed that exploit in an update and continues to review flagged accounts known to perform exploits. That statement was last updated April 26, 2024.

Rockstar’s PC title-update notes also list “Updates to improve the security of Red Dead Online” in an April 27, 2022 entry. This confirms security work, but the notes do not identify a vendor, product, or technical detection method.
Does Red Dead Online use BattlEye?
The Rockstar BattlEye FAQ covers Grand Theft Auto Online, not Red Dead Online. It is not evidence that BattlEye is used in Red Dead Online. The official Red Dead Online material described above establishes anti-cheating measures and enforcement, but does not name a specific anti-cheat system. That distinction does not prove that Red Dead Online has no detection systems; it means Rockstar’s cited material does not specify one.

How to report a suspected cheater
Rockstar says reporting through the game is the best and most effective route because it can gather more information to identify players and activity. In Red Dead Online:
- Open the in-game Player Menu.
- Select Players.
- Select the player you want to report.
- Choose Report and confirm.
Rockstar’s reporting guidance was last updated November 24, 2025. Avoid confronting a suspected player or installing a mod menu or exploit in response.

Can cheating lead to a ban?
Yes. Rockstar warns that PC players who use mod menus to spawn treasure chests or other items will be banned. It also warns that accounts repeatedly abusing the mechanic by opening chests at extraordinary rates may be banned. That warning was last updated April 16, 2024.
Rockstar’s general online suspension and ban policy, last updated February 24, 2026, says an action can restrict access to one or more online services. Depending on the action, progress, property, and inventory may be reset or become inaccessible. The policy describes possible consequences, not an outcome guaranteed in every case.

What this means for the original Red Dead Redemption
“Red Dead” can refer to several games and online modes. The current anti-cheat evidence discussed here is specifically about Red Dead Online, the online mode associated with Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar also published a 2010 post about anti-cheating measures for the original Red Dead Redemption multiplayer, but that historical announcement does not establish what technical protections Red Dead Online uses today.

The official material cited here does not provide a cheating-prevalence statistic, a detection rate, or a named Red Dead Online anti-cheat vendor. It therefore supports saying that Rockstar documents security measures and enforcement—not claiming a particular product, effectiveness level, or guarantee that every cheater will be detected.
