Roblox says it may access the ID and selfie images stored by Persona for training, product improvement and compliance. Roblox’s published notices say Persona deletes biometric data within 30 days after collection unless a longer period is required by law. That is not the same as a guarantee that every copy of every passport image disappears from every system after exactly 30 days.
What “save” means in Roblox’s verification process
There are two separate questions behind “Does Roblox save your passport?” First, does the service collect an image of the document? Yes. Second, how long can that image or related biometric information remain available, and who can use it? Roblox’s own notices describe a third-party workflow rather than a promise that Roblox never sees the document.

For identity verification, Roblox says Persona captures a photo of your ID and a selfie. A passport is one of the government-issued photo IDs Roblox lists for this check. Driver’s licenses and certain residency documents may also be accepted, depending on the country.

What happens when you verify with a passport
1. You start the check from your account
Roblox’s ID Verification instructions describe starting in account settings and choosing the ID-based option. The exact labels or placement can change as Roblox updates its interface, but the process requires an account eligible for the check and a supported country or document.
2. Persona photographs the document
Persona, rather than a Roblox game or another player, is the provider identified in Roblox’s privacy notice. You photograph the selected government ID, such as a passport. The image is uploaded through the verification flow so the document’s details can be checked.
3. You provide a selfie
The flow also captures a selfie. Persona uses the document photo and selfie to check that the person presenting the ID matches the document. This is why the process involves both an image of the passport and an image of your face.

4. Roblox receives the verification result and may access stored images
Roblox says it may access the ID and selfie images stored by Persona for training, product improvement and compliance purposes. That wording matters: it rules out the claim that Roblox “never sees your passport.” At the same time, Roblox says it will not have access to the face geometry that Persona processes. Face geometry is the numerical representation used for biometric matching; it is different from the ordinary photo files of the ID and selfie.
How long does Roblox keep passport and selfie data?
Roblox’s stated 30-day rule
The Roblox Biometric and Facial Media Data Privacy Notice says: “Our service provider, Persona, will respectively delete your Biometric Data within 30 days after collection, unless required by law (such as a warrant or subpoena) to keep your Biometric Data for a longer period.” Roblox’s ID Verification FAQ separately says information uploaded to Persona is retained for 30 days and then removed from Persona.
Those statements are Roblox’s description of its process. They are not an independently audited guarantee that every technical copy, backup, export or legal record is destroyed at the same instant. The privacy notice specifically discusses “Biometric Data,” while the FAQ refers to information uploaded to Persona. A passport image, a selfie, biometric measurements derived from those images and the verification result are related but not identical data types.

The legal-retention exception
The 30-day wording includes an exception when law requires longer retention. Roblox gives a warrant or subpoena as an example. Therefore, “deleted after 30 days” should be read as the normal period Roblox publishes, subject to legal obligations that can extend retention.
What the notices do not establish
- They do not establish that every copy of a passport photo is erased from every system worldwide at the 30-day mark.
- They do not say that Roblox has no access to the document image; Roblox expressly says it may access images stored by Persona for stated business and compliance purposes.
- They do not provide a universal retention period for every downstream record, account flag or audit log associated with an age check.
The safest practical interpretation is that Persona normally retains uploaded verification information for 30 days, while biometric data is stated to be deleted within 30 days unless a legal requirement applies. Roblox’s published language does not support a broader promise about every image copy or related record.
Who can see your passport photo?
During the check, Persona captures and processes the document and selfie as Roblox’s service provider. Roblox says it may access those images when they are stored by Persona for training, product improvement and compliance. That means the relevant privacy relationship includes both Roblox and its verification provider.

Roblox separately says it does not have access to the face geometry Persona processes. This distinction does not mean the selfie is invisible to Roblox: the notice discusses access to the stored ID and selfie images, while excluding the underlying biometric geometry. A photo is visual media; face geometry is a derived biometric representation.
The notices also do not say that other players, game creators or ordinary account visitors can view the passport. The images are part of the verification workflow, not a profile field you publish in a Roblox experience. You should still treat the upload as sensitive identity information and use only the official Roblox account flow.

Roblox describes a second route called facial age estimation. It is not a passport scan and should not be treated as having the same data handling.

Choosing facial age estimation avoids submitting a passport, but it may not provide the same type of document-backed verification and may not be offered for every account or feature.

Roblox says a user may be asked to re-check age if the system detects a discrepancy or if continued access to certain features requires another check. A previous verification therefore is not necessarily a permanent, all-features pass. The request can depend on account settings, region and the feature involved.
Roblox also says supported document types differ by country. A passport accepted in one location does not guarantee that the same document, language, issuing authority or verification route will be accepted everywhere. The company states that age verification is supported in more than 180 countries, but that figure is Roblox’s own undated description rather than an independently dated statistic.

- Confirm that the request is inside Roblox. Open account settings through the official Roblox app or website. Do not send a passport photo to a player, game developer, social-media account or an unsolicited email.
- Read the current notices. Open Roblox’s Biometric and Facial Media Data Privacy Notice and ID Verification FAQ before consenting. Policies and interface wording can change.
- Check whether you need document verification. If Roblox offers facial age estimation and an age estimate is sufficient for the feature, compare that route’s stated image handling with the ID route. Do not assume the alternatives unlock identical features.
- Use a valid, supported document. Follow the on-screen country and document instructions. Keep all corners and text visible, avoid glare and use the selfie conditions requested by the flow so you do not have to repeat the submission.
- Do not edit or obscure required details. Cropping, covering security features or submitting a photocopy when a live capture is requested can cause a failure. Only provide what the official flow requests.
- After submission, keep the retention distinction in mind. Roblox publishes a normal 30-day period for Persona’s uploaded information and biometric-data deletion, with a legal exception. That does not warrant assuming instant deletion of every associated record.
What to do if verification fails or the request seems wrong
If the scan is rejected
- Check that the document is one of the types supported in your country and that it is not expired if the flow requires a current document.
- Retake the image in even lighting, with the entire photo page visible and readable.
- Follow the selfie prompts exactly; mismatched angles, glare or another person in frame can prevent a match.
- Use Roblox’s official help channels rather than sending the document to someone claiming to provide a shortcut.
If the account asks for another check
Review whether the prompt follows a change in feature access, an age discrepancy or a regional rule. Roblox’s age-check materials state that a re-check can be required, so a second request is not proof that your first passport image was permanently saved or that it was deleted incorrectly.
If you are uncomfortable submitting a passport
Do not upload it until you understand which route Roblox is offering and what the current notices say. Where facial age estimation is available, it is a different choice with different stated handling, but it may not satisfy every feature’s requirement. You can also decline a verification request and forgo features that require it rather than giving the document to an unofficial intermediary.
The practical answer
Roblox does not simply ignore or instantly discard a passport used for age verification. Persona captures the passport image and a selfie; Roblox says it may access those images for training, product improvement and compliance. Roblox publishes a normal 30-day retention statement for Persona-uploaded information and says biometric data is deleted within 30 days unless law requires longer retention. Because those statements address specified data categories and include a legal exception, they should not be expanded into a guarantee that every copy of every passport image disappears from every system after 30 days.
