What did Roblox’s CEO say about dating?
At Roblox’s 2023 Developers Conference keynote, CEO David Baszucki spoke about future real-life relationships on the platform and said Roblox would build a platform to support them. A 2025 court complaint quotes and points to the keynote recording: the filing and cited keynote. The remarks give the “Roblox wants to be a dating app” headline a basis, but they are an expression of future ambition, not an announcement of a released dating feature.
The complaint’s quoted wording includes an editorial bracket—“subsequent[]”—so it should not be treated as a clean transcript. The important distinction is that Baszucki discussed real-life relationships; the cited material does not establish a dating service with profiles, matching, or date-planning tools.
Does Roblox have a dating app now?
No dedicated Roblox dating app or dating feature is documented in the company materials cited here. Roblox’s current communication announcements describe age checks, age-based chat, and Trusted Connections for people who know one another—not romantic matching. See Roblox’s November 2025 communication update.

- Each gift card grants a free virtual item upon redemption.
That distinction matters because a platform where people socialize is not automatically a dating product. The available evidence supports saying Roblox has discussed a future that could include real-life relationships; it does not support saying the company has launched dating or that users can use Roblox as an official dating service.
What communication features has Roblox announced?
Age checks and age-group chat
Roblox said it was introducing age checks for communication features and chat between users in similar age groups. Its November 2025 announcement also said users under 13 remain restricted from chat outside experiences. For users under nine, in-experience chat is off by default unless a parent consents after an age check. Availability and details can vary with local law, according to the company.

Trusted Connections
Roblox describes Trusted Connections as a way for users who know each other in real life to communicate. This is a connection feature, not evidence of an in-platform dating or matchmaking system.
How Roblox says age checks work
Roblox says facial age estimation is completed in the app using the device camera, and that images and video used for the process are deleted immediately after processing. The company also describes ID verification for users 13 or older. Its 2025 Form 10-K lists facial age estimation, identity verification, and age data supplied by a parent or caregiver among its age-check methods: Roblox’s 2025 Form 10-K.

How many Roblox users have completed an age check?
In February 2026, Roblox reported that 45% of its 144 million global daily active users had completed an age check. Among age-checked daily active users, the company reported this age distribution, based on the seven days ended January 31, 2026:

|---|---|
| Younger than 13 | 35% |
| 13–17 | 38% |
| 18 or older | 27% |
These figures are Roblox’s company-reported numbers, not a census of every Roblox user. The company said the age-group shares may change as more users complete age checks. Details appear in Roblox’s February 2026 update.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do age checks make dating or chat safe?
No age-check system should be treated as a guarantee. Roblox’s 2025 Form 10-K acknowledges that users have evaded its systems and that age checks have misclassified users, potentially allowing access to features or experiences intended for older users. The company says mandatory age checks in chat-enabled regions began in January 2026, with the system designed to enable chat only between similar age groups or Trusted Connections. Its own disclosures therefore describe both the intended safeguard and residual risks.

Roblox also describes parental controls, moderation, and tools to block and report users. In its September 2025 announcement, the company said: “We recognize that no system is foolproof and we cannot prevent all problematic content from appearing on Roblox.” That announcement also reported more than 100 safety initiatives shipped since January 2025; Roblox’s November 2025 communication update separately said more than 145 safety innovations had launched since January 2025. These are company-reported activity counts, not independent measures of safety outcomes. See Roblox’s September 2025 safety announcement.
What the evidence does—and does not—show
- Established: Baszucki spoke in 2023 about future real-life relationships on Roblox and a platform to support them.
- Documented current direction: Roblox’s cited product updates focus on age-checked, age-structured chat and Trusted Connections.
- Not established: A dedicated dating app, romantic matching feature, or independent proof that the safety measures prevent adults and minors from communicating improperly.
The distinction is especially important on a mixed-age service. Roblox reported that among its age-checked daily active users, 35% were younger than 13 and 38% were ages 13–17, using data for the seven days ended January 31, 2026. Those figures underscore why age-structured communication is a material part of the product discussion, but do not establish the effectiveness of its controls.
