What does shiny change?
According to the community-maintained Anime Adventures Wiki, a shiny changes a unit’s appearance and marks it as a distinct cosmetic version. The wiki’s Cosmetics index lists normal and shiny versions separately for many units. It does not describe shiny status as changing a unit’s combat stats.
This is a community-wiki description, not an official developer statement. The sources establish a cosmetic distinction, but do not establish a stable collection or trading value for shiny units.
Shiny versus traits
Traits are the stat-affecting system to look at when you want a unit to perform differently in combat. The FAQ describes traits as powerups that can boost damage, SPA, and range; the wiki’s Traits page likewise defines them as modifiers for those stats.

Can you summon a shiny?
The FAQ says there is a small chance to get a shiny from each summon, but it gives no numeric probability. There is not enough information here to calculate or quote odds; check the current in-game summon information for any rate shown there.
Can removing a shiny give you Star Remnants?
The Traits page says Star Remnants can be obtained by removing shinies through Lucil in the lobby, and describes Star Remnants as one way to reroll traits. This is community-wiki guidance that may change after an update. Check the current game before removing a shiny you value.
