The familiar shorthand that Sonic “kisses a human” leaves out an important detail: Elise initiates the kiss.
Which game has the Sonic and human kiss?
The scene is in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), and the human character is Princess Elise. It is the specific scene behind the question of whether Sonic kisses a human; it does not establish that the same thing happens across every Sonic game or continuity.
SEGA’s director commentary says Elise was deliberately paired with Sonic in the game’s story. The developers wanted to highlight Sonic’s coolness and explore how he would interact with a human girl and behave toward a princess.
Who kisses whom?
Elise kisses Sonic while he is incapacitated. So the concise answer is that Sonic is kissed by a human; saying that Sonic kisses Elise reverses who initiates the moment.

Will a Sonic game repeat the scene?
In a June 15, 2022 report, ComicBook.com quoted Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka, speaking in an Axios interview, as saying: “I don’t think we’ll be doing that again.” That is a tentative comment about the creative choice at the time, not a formal SEGA ban or a guarantee about every future story.

SEGA’s official Sonic profile describes him as a male hedgehog who likes freedom, dislikes injustice, and helps people in trouble. It does not discuss the Elise scene or set a general rule about Sonic and human romance.
