Not by itself. Stream Deck is a programmable control surface, not a microphone voice-processing engine. Pair it with software such as Voicemod, however, and its keys can switch voice effects, toggle them on and off, or play soundboard clips. The app you use for chat or streaming must receive the processed microphone signal.
What Stream Deck can do on its own
Stream Deck gives you programmable keys and controls for launching actions. Its built-in Soundboard action plays audio files; Elgato lists MP3, WAV, FLAC, and M4A support and lets you route playback to an audio device. That can put a prerecorded laugh, meme, or other clip at your fingertips, but it does not alter live microphone speech. See Elgato’s Soundboard guide.
For a live voice change, you need an audio-processing app or effects chain. Stream Deck then serves as the controller for that software.
Use Stream Deck with Voicemod
The simplest setup is Stream Deck plus the Voicemod desktop app and its official plugin. Voicemod processes the microphone; the plugin lets Stream Deck control available voice and soundboard functions. Voicemod must be running and configured for the controls to work. The integration is also listed for Stream Deck Mobile, though mobile controls and audio routing should not be assumed to behave identically to a desktop hardware setup. Set up the microphone path
- Install and open Voicemod, then select your physical microphone as its input.
- In the app where you want to speak, choose Voicemod Virtual Microphone as the input device. That sends the processed signal rather than the unprocessed microphone. Voicemod’s product documentation describes this input selection at voicemod.com.
- Speak and confirm that the target app’s input meter responds. Test the effect before joining a call or going live.
Install and assign the plugin
- Open Stream Deck software and install the Voicemod plugin from Elgato Marketplace. Elgato’s current Marketplace workflow requires Stream Deck 6.4 or later; the former Stream Deck Store has been replaced. See the Marketplace transition notice.
- Return to the Stream Deck action list, add the Voicemod actions you want to keys, and configure each one for a voice, toggle, or soundboard function.
- Keep Voicemod open, press each key, and verify that both the effect and the app’s incoming microphone signal behave as expected.
Elgato’s general Stream Deck plugin guide covers plugin installation. Marketplace listings and compatibility can change, so check the current listing if an older tutorial’s instructions do not match your software.
Useful keys for voice control
- Voice changer on/off: Quickly switch between the processed voice and normal voice.
- Push to Voice Changer: Apply the effect while holding the assigned control, rather than leaving it enabled continuously.
- Favorite voice presets: Give frequently used voices their own keys.
- Clean voice or reset: Make it easy to return to an unprocessed voice if a preset is unsuitable.
- Soundboard clips: Trigger prerecorded sounds separately from live voice effects.
- Monitoring control: Useful if you want to hear your own processed voice, but avoid monitoring the same microphone through multiple paths.
Choose only actions exposed by the current plugin and available in your Voicemod setup. Voicemod describes push-to-effect behavior and voice and soundboard controls in its plugin instructions.

Wave Link 3 and Voicemod effects on Windows
There is a more integrated option for Windows users: Elgato says Wave Link 3 can run Voicemod voice changers as VST effects inside Wave Link. In this arrangement, Wave Link applies the effect to the microphone signal rather than sending the microphone through the standalone Voicemod app first. Elgato describes Wave Link 3 as free and compatible with a range of microphones. This is a software routing option, not voice processing built into Stream Deck hardware. - Install or update Wave Link 3 and install the Voicemod effects offered for Wave Link through Elgato Marketplace.
- Add your microphone in Wave Link and insert or enable the Voicemod effect you want.
- Use the Wave Link Stream Deck plugin to assign controls. Elgato documents actions for toggling an individual effect or an entire effect chain in its Wave Link plugin overview.
- In Discord, OBS, your game, or another target app, select the appropriate Wave Link microphone endpoint or output for the signal you intend to send.
- Test the target app’s input and your monitoring separately before using the setup live.
Elgato’s native Voicemod-in-Wave-Link description is specifically for Windows; it does not establish that the same VST workflow is available on macOS. Mac users should check current platform support and may need the standalone Voicemod routing method or another audio-routing setup. Will the changed voice work in Discord, games, OBS, or Zoom?
It can work in chat, games, and streaming software that lets you choose the processed microphone or the relevant Wave Link input. It is not guaranteed to work in every application: a game may lock the input device, a program may apply strong noise suppression, or permissions may block a virtual audio device. Voicemod describes its use for voice chats, games, and streaming at voicemod.com; Elgato describes the Wave Link route for Discord, games, and other applications in its Wave Link overview.
Is Voicemod free?
Voicemod offers Free and PRO tiers. Its comparison says Free has a limited, rotating selection of voices and a limited soundboard, while PRO unlocks the full voice library, unlimited soundboards, and VoiceLab. The Stream Deck integration works with both tiers, subject to the content available to each. Voicemod’s Free versus PRO comparison does not establish a current dollar price here, so check its live pricing before subscribing.

Troubleshoot a voice changer that is not working
The effect works in monitoring but not in Discord or a game
- Check that the app is using Voicemod Virtual Microphone or the correct Wave Link input, rather than the physical microphone.
- Speak and watch the target app’s input meter.
- Temporarily reduce or disable the app’s automatic noise processing for a test, then restore settings as needed.
- Confirm that the Stream Deck key is actually toggling the effect in Voicemod or Wave Link.
The target app gets silence
- Verify the selected input and check that the virtual device is not muted.
- If using Wave Link, check that the relevant mix or microphone path is not muted.
- Close other applications that may have exclusive control of the microphone, then test again.
- Check whether the target app’s noise suppression is removing the signal. Elgato calls out input selection and application-level suppression in its MicrophoneFX routing guidance.
A Stream Deck key does nothing
- Make sure Voicemod is open and configured, and that the action is present in the active Stream Deck profile.
- Check that the key is assigned to the intended plugin action and voice or sound.
- Update Stream Deck and the relevant app if the plugin is missing or unresponsive, and use Marketplace rather than instructions for the retired Store.
- Check the plugin’s current requirements and whether a feature needs the app to be fully initialized.

You hear an echo or the voice is delayed
- For echo, use headphones and check for duplicate monitoring: the raw and processed microphones may both be monitored, or the same source may have been added twice in OBS or Wave Link.
- For delay, simplify the audio path, reduce unnecessary effects, and review buffer and routing settings. Multiple chained apps can contribute; the Wave Link route may simplify the chain, but no latency improvement is guaranteed.
Do you need a Stream Deck to change your voice?
No. The voice-processing software does the transformation; Stream Deck adds visible, tactile controls for switching voices, toggling effects, and triggering clips. If you only want voice changing, start with the software. If you already own a Stream Deck—or want programmable controls for other gaming and streaming tasks as well—it can make those changes easier to operate quickly.
