For The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, start with high-quality standard rendering at your chosen resolution, then adjust settings to meet your frame-rate target. Try an upscaler if native resolution falls short; enable path tracing only if the resulting performance is still acceptable to you.
This guide covers the Remastered PC release, not just the 2022 Next-Gen update. CD PROJEKT RED released Remastered on September 29, 2026, and its latest surfaced PC hotfix, version 5.00c, is dated October 1, 2026. The release announcement and official feature notes describe the current version’s rendering features; the hotfix notes document a subsequent visual and HairWorks change.
What changed in the Remastered PC version?
Remastered uses native DirectX 12 rendering with multithreading. CD PROJEKT RED’s feature notes list an improved shading model and tone mapping, GTAO (a screen-space ambient-occlusion option), ray-traced local shadows, updated screen-space reflections and shadows, revised HDR calibration, improved motion blur, and path tracing. The PC feature list also includes NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with Ray Reconstruction, AMD FSR 4 with Frame Generation and Anti-Lag 2, Intel XeSS 2.0 with Frame Generation and Low Latency, and Ray-Traced HairWorks. The available features depend on supported hardware; the publisher recommends current graphics drivers. See CD PROJEKT RED’s feature notes.
That is a broader feature set than the 2022 Next-Gen PC update, which added ray-traced global illumination and ambient occlusion, compatible-hardware ray-traced reflections and shadows, FSR 2.1, DLSS 3, and Ultra+ settings. Older advice can still help identify visual settings to tune, but it is not a complete guide to Remastered’s options. The 2022 change list is useful historical context.

How to find the best settings for your PC
1. Confirm the version and choose a target
Use the Remastered PC build and update it before tuning. These recommendations concern PC; console graphics modes are different. Pick the resolution you want to play at and a frame rate that suits your display and preferences. Without your hardware, resolution, and target, no one preset can be called best for everyone.
2. Establish a standard-rendering baseline
Begin with high-quality raster settings and leave path tracing off. Use your display’s native resolution if performance allows. Change one demanding option at a time, testing the same scene after each adjustment so you can tell what actually affects performance and image quality.

Useful quality dimensions to examine include shadows, grass density, texture quality, foliage visibility range, terrain, water, detail, and background-character count. These are categories listed for the older Ultra+ update, not a guarantee of identical menu labels in Remastered; check the names and choices in your current build. The historical Ultra+ list provides context for what these settings affect.
3. Add an upscaler only if native resolution misses your target
If native rendering does not meet your chosen frame-rate target, try the upscaler supported by your graphics hardware. Start with its image-quality-prioritizing mode, then move to a more performance-oriented mode only if necessary. Remastered officially lists DLSS 4.5, FSR 4, and XeSS 2.0, but support and available options vary by GPU. The feature list establishes availability, not a measured performance gain or a universal image-quality ranking for these upscalers. Check the official feature notes.

4. Treat path tracing as an optional visual upgrade
Path tracing is a demanding option, not a default recommendation for every PC. Compare the same location with it on and off, at the same output resolution, and keep it enabled only if the image change is worth the performance and frame-pacing trade-off on your system. The official notes confirm the feature, but do not establish a hardware threshold or performance result that applies to all PCs. The publisher’s feature list and release announcement describe its inclusion.
5. Check HairWorks after updating
Hotfix 5.00c reverted a HairWorks change that had caused significant performance and visual issues for some users. That history is a reason to test Ray-Traced HairWorks on your own PC rather than assuming it is either universally safe or universally too slow. Read the October 1, 2026 hotfix notes.

6. Set display effects to taste
HDR calibration and motion blur were updated, but the publisher does not prescribe a preferred value. Calibrate HDR for your display and decide on motion blur based on your preference; neither has a universal setting that suits every player. The official notes describe these changes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to compare settings fairly
Use the same scene, output resolution, and camera position for each comparison. Judge more than a brief feeling of smoothness: look at image quality, average and worst-case frame rate or frame pacing, input responsiveness, and any upscaling artifacts or visual instability. If you test a frame-generation option, distinguish its displayed output from the performance of the underlying rendering; the feature list confirms support for frame generation on specified upscalers, but supplies no benchmark measurements.

For context, NVIDIA’s 2022 coverage said ray-traced reflections particularly affected large bodies of water and puddles, while shadows added detail and contact shading in that older update. That vendor-authored description may help explain the visual goals of those effects, but it is not a Remastered performance test or a guarantee of identical results. Read NVIDIA’s 2022 overview.
What the available requirements information does—and does not—tell you
CD PROJEKT RED says the Remastered system requirements have changed, but the values in its requirements table are presented as an image and are not available in the text cited here. No minimum or recommended CPU or GPU figures can be given on that basis. Consult the current official feature page for the requirements table rather than relying on older Next-Gen specifications: Remastered feature notes and requirements.
