Does the 15-Fan Noctua Superdome Really Lower Gaming Temps by 20°C?

A custom 15-fan Noctua side panel produced a reported 19.4°C lower CPU reading in one Battlefield 6 comparison, but the result is specific to that creator-built PC and test.

In one creator-reported Battlefield 6 comparison, a custom PC side panel called the Superdome was associated with a CPU reading about 19.4°C lower than a conventional tempered-glass panel. That is the source of the “around 20°C” claim—not evidence that the same drop will happen in other PCs.

What is the Noctua Superdome?

The Superdome is a custom 3D-printed PC side panel built by James, owner of the Major Hardware YouTube channel. As reported by Paul Lilly at HotHardware on April 13, 2026, the frame holds 15 Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM 120 mm fans. HotHardware says Noctua supplied the fans to the creator.

James described it as: “What started as a small gadget-style fan project has now become the ‘Superdome’ — a massive custom PC side panel built from 15× Noctua A12x25 120mm fans.” The report presents a creator-built project, not a ready-made retail kit. The named component is the Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM 120 mm fan; buying one fan does not reproduce the 15-fan assembly or its custom frame.

What temperatures did the Battlefield 6 comparison report?

Side-panel setup Reported CPU temperature
Conventional tempered-glass panel 86.34°C
Superdome with 15 fans 66.91°C
Difference calculated from those readings 19.43°C lower, or about 19.4°C

These are the creator’s Battlefield 6 test readings as relayed by HotHardware. The roughly 19.4°C gap is arithmetic from the two reported temperatures; it is not a separate measurement. HotHardware characterizes the result as around 20°C.

  • Pressure-optimised blade design with outstanding quietness of operation: high static pressure and strong CFM for air-based CPU coolers, water cooling radiators or low-noise chassis ventilation
  • 1700rpm 4-pin PWM version with excellent balance of performance and quietness, supports automatic motherboard speed control (powerful airflow when required, virtually silent at idle)
  • Streamlined redux edition: proven Noctua quality at an attractive price point, wide range of optional accessories (anti-vibration mounts, S-ATA adaptors, y-splitters, extension cables, etc.)

Does that mean your gaming PC will run 20°C cooler?

No. The comparison establishes what was reported for this particular build and test, not a general result for other PCs. The available account does not establish that the same change holds across different processors, cases, games, ambient temperatures, fan curves, or panel configurations. It also does not provide enough methodological detail to assess every comparison condition, such as test duration or noise.

For a meaningful comparison with another cooling setup, you would need matching workloads and durations, CPU and case configuration, ambient temperature, side-panel condition, and fan settings. Noise, power use, space, build complexity, and total parts cost also matter when deciding whether the approach makes sense.

What are the practical costs of the 15-fan design?

  • Power: HotHardware attributes measurements of about 27.6 W to the 15-fan array and 8.1 W to one fan. These are reported creator figures, not an independent power test.
  • Clearance and cable routing: The creator reportedly found cables touching fan blades and resolved the interference. A build with many exposed fans needs careful routing and clearance checks.
  • Space: The dome shape is bulkier than a flat side panel, so case fit and nearby desk space are practical constraints.
  • Build effort: The reported setup uses a custom 3D-printed frame and 15 fans. It should not be treated as a simple fan swap or an off-the-shelf upgrade.
