Which Elden Ring “dragon glitch” do players mean?
The phrase usually refers to the Greyoll rune reset, sometimes described as the big white sleeping dragon glitch or the mother dragon rune farm. The reported maneuver is to kill Elder Dragon Greyoll in Caelid, then reach the nearby Site of Grace and rest while the death animation is still playing. Players say a successful reset awards the runes but leaves Greyoll available to kill again.

How to attempt the Greyoll rune reset
- Find Elder Dragon Greyoll in Caelid and prepare to reach the nearby Site of Grace quickly after the killing blow.
- Deliver the killing blow to Greyoll.
- Immediately return to the nearby Site of Grace and rest before the death animation completes.
- Check whether the reported reset succeeded: players say the runes are awarded while Greyoll remains available. If Greyoll despawns normally, the attempt has failed.
The window is tight, according to player reports, and the result is not guaranteed. Reports also warn that a failed attempt may leave Greyoll gone for the rest of that playthrough; do not assume you can retry the one-time kill.

Bandai Namco Europe’s version 1.17 announcement, dated 27 August 2026, lists PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam as targeted platforms.

The official Elden Ring Japan site’s 8 September 2026 notice identifies App Ver. 1.17.1 and Regulation Ver. 1.17.1. It describes a fix for a multiplayer issue that could let players obtain items that should not be obtainable under certain conditions; it does not mention Greyoll, rune farming, or the death-animation reset. That omission does not prove the trick is unchanged.
Recent community discussions report success after the Tarnished Edition update, and older reports through March 2025 describe successful attempts too. These are player claims, not official confirmation or a controlled test. Identical behavior across platforms has not been established, and the listed platform coverage does not establish support for Nintendo Switch 2.
