No. PowerA says the Advantage Wired Controller for Nintendo Switch 2 is for docked use only, and it does not support motion controls, HD rumble, the IR camera or amiibo NFC. It is also not for Joy-Con-only games. Whether it works in another game depends on that title’s compatibility and control requirements.
What the controller supports—and what it does not
PowerA’s official product listing identifies this model as the Advantage Wired Controller for Nintendo Switch 2. It connects by a detachable 10-foot USB-C cable and is specified for use with Switch 2 only while the console is docked.
| Capability | What PowerA states |
|---|---|
| Connection and play mode | Wired; for Switch 2 use only while the system is docked. |
| Motion controls | Not supported. |
| HD rumble | Not supported. |
| IR camera | Not supported. |
| amiibo NFC | Not supported. |
| Joy-Con-only games | Not supported. |
The controller also has Hall Effect thumbsticks, two mappable buttons, onboard audio controls, a 3.5 mm audio jack and a C Button for GameChat, according to PowerA. Those features do not add the motion, NFC or other Joy-Con capabilities that the listing says are absent.
Why game compatibility varies
Nintendo says Switch 2 plays compatible Nintendo Switch games, but some titles may not be supported or fully compatible. Its compatibility guidance explains that compatibility can depend on the individual game and may change as Nintendo tests and updates titles.

Controller features matter as well as whether a game launches. A title or mode that requires motion input, IR-camera functionality, HD rumble, amiibo NFC or original Joy-Con cannot be assumed to work as intended with this PowerA controller. Nintendo lists examples of Switch software or functions with original Joy-Con requirements, including Ring Fit Adventure, some 1-2-Switch and Game Builder Garage functions, and Soccer Shoot-Out in Nintendo Switch Sports. These examples illustrate why the specific mode matters; they are not a complete compatibility list for this controller.
Can you use it in handheld mode?
No—not as a controller connected to the Switch 2 system for handheld play. PowerA specifies docked-only use on Switch 2, and the controller connects by cable. Plan to play with it while the console is docked rather than treating it as a handheld-mode option.

How to check a particular game
- Open Nintendo’s Switch game compatibility page and look up the title. Nintendo says the status on the individual game page or in the Nintendo eShop is the latest place to check.
- Read the game’s instructions or software manual for required controllers and inputs. PowerA’s user manual also directs users to the software title manual for support information.
- Check whether the particular game or mode requires Joy-Con-only input or a capability this controller lacks. If it does, use a supported controller or input method instead.
Nintendo’s compatibility page dates its listed test information to June 5, 2025, and advises checking individual title pages for the latest status. The available official guidance does not provide an exhaustive, game-by-game test matrix for this exact PowerA controller, so a general compatibility label for a game should not be treated as proof that every control feature is supported.
