Usually, yes—if YouTube Studio lets you trim the replay and the edit removes every part covered by the Content ID claim. YouTube says the claim is removed after processing once all claimed content has been trimmed out. Its guidance covers videos generally, however, and does not specifically guarantee this outcome for live replays, so check that the replay offers the relevant Editor action and verify the result after processing.
How to trim the claimed section from a live replay
- In YouTube Studio, open the replay’s claim notice and select the option to view claim details.
- For the relevant claim, choose Take action → Trim out segment. If that option is not available for the replay, these steps do not establish another way to edit it.
- Set the start and end times to remove the claimed material. Preview the edit to check that the entire claimed portion is covered, then select Save and trim.
- Wait for processing to finish. Studio shows an in-progress badge and an estimated remaining time; YouTube says processing time varies. You cannot make other edits to the video while processing is underway.
- Reload the page once processing finishes. Confirm the edit completed and check the claim status. Saving the trim alone does not confirm the claim cleared.
YouTube’s rule is that all claimed content must be trimmed out for the claim to be removed. If any claimed portion remains, the claim will not clear. A claim can concern audio, video, or both, so check the claim details and preview the edited replay carefully.
Protect a copy before saving the edit
Since June 2025, edits saved in Studio Editor cannot be undone using Revert to original. If keeping an unedited copy matters, download the replay or use Google Takeout before saving the trim. Processing times vary, so do not treat an estimated time as a guarantee.
Check whether this is a Content ID claim or a copyright takedown
A Content ID claim can block a video, monetize it—sometimes sharing revenue with the uploader—or track viewership. The policy may vary by geography. A claim is distinct from a copyright removal request and a copyright strike.

A copyright removal request is a legal request reviewed by YouTube. If YouTube finds it valid, it removes the content and applies a strike. For a scheduled removal request, the uploader has seven days to act before removal and the strike. Trimming guidance for Content ID claims is not a guaranteed remedy for an active takedown or strike.
If you believe the claim is mistaken
Use YouTube’s dispute process rather than trimming when you have a valid basis to challenge the claim, such as having the necessary rights, a qualifying copyright exception, or misidentification. YouTube says the claimant generally has 30 days to respond. Giving credit, owning a copy, or choosing not to monetize are not valid reasons by themselves; an invalid dispute can lead to a removal request.

Trimming and disputing do different things: trimming removes material from the replay, while a dispute challenges the claim. Choose based on whether the claim is valid, whether you can remove every claimed interval, and whether preserving the original replay matters.
