This keeps the encoder replaying your files; it does not make the clips yours or ensure a monetization approval. Before you build the rotation: clear every clip
Confirm you have permission to livestream each video and every audio component, including music and material embedded in a news broadcast. Check that the permission covers the territories where you plan to stream, the term of use, and any saved live archive. Keep the licenses and other evidence of permission on file.
YouTube says it scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including other live broadcasts. A match can lead to a placeholder replacing the stream, an interruption, or termination. Even when you have a license, the rights owner may need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility for necessary rights and applicable legal compliance on the person providing the stream. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and livestream terms and conditions.
Do not assume that publicly available footage, a news channel’s on-air broadcast, or a clip that is already on YouTube is cleared for your rebroadcast. Whether particular footage is licensed—and what local broadcast or other rules apply—depends on your circumstances; these general platform sources do not establish the status of any specific Hindi clip.

How to set up the OBS playlist rotation
1. Install OBS and VLC
Install OBS Studio and VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS documents the source as a way to create a playlist of items, unlike a standard Media Source. See OBS’s media sources guide.
2. Add the clips as a VLC Video source
- In OBS, create or select the scene you intend to broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add VLC Video Source.
- Open the source properties and add the rights-cleared video files to its playlist.
- Arrange the files in the order you want, or enable shuffle if you prefer a changing sequence.
- Enable Loop Playlist so playback starts again after the list reaches its end.
- Choose whether the source should continue playing when it is not visible in the scene. Check the setting against how you use scenes; hiding a source can otherwise affect playback.
This is a playlist inside OBS that feeds the encoder. It is separate from a public YouTube playlist, which groups videos for viewers.
3. Make and preview the broadcast scene
Add only accurate, appropriate branding, labels, or original context. Preview the scene and check that the video fits the frame, the audio is audible without clipping, and the clip order and loop behave as intended. Look for desktop notifications, private information, or other material that should not be on air. The OBS and YouTube instructions explain the playlist and stream setup; they do not promise seamless transitions between files.

4. Create the YouTube live stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Confirm the channel is eligible before planning a launch.
- Copy the stream’s server URL and stream key from YouTube’s stream settings.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the server information and stream key as prompted. Use the stream’s correct key; treat it like a password because it authorizes the encoder to send a feed to YouTube.
- Start streaming in OBS, then verify in the Live Control Room that YouTube is receiving the picture and sound before making the stream public.
Labels in the interface can change. Follow the current YouTube encoder setup instructions and stream settings guidance if the displayed fields differ.
5. Test privately before promoting the channel
Where appropriate, test with a private or unlisted stream. Confirm picture, sound, sequence, loop, and stream status, and check that you are not exposing a key or other private information. Do not promise viewers uninterrupted 24/7 service based only on a successful test: an OBS playlist loop does not establish automatic recovery after a computer, network, encoder, or YouTube interruption. Plan how you will notice a failure and restart the stream.
Check YouTube eligibility and plan around stream limits
YouTube’s public starter guidance says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and that streamers must be at least 16 years old. It also lists a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key. These are YouTube’s published figures in its live-streaming eligibility guidance; check the current page and your account before scheduling, as eligibility and enforcement are platform-controlled.

Plan session length and archives
YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous channel should therefore have an operating plan for sessions, restarts, and archives rather than assume one archived event will cover an indefinite broadcast. Review saved content and ensure a restart will not replay clips whose permissions have expired or changed. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.
Keep the OBS playlist distinct from a YouTube playlist
The OBS VLC playlist determines which local files the encoder plays. A YouTube playlist is a viewer-facing collection of YouTube videos. If you create one for the channel, its title, description, and combined context must not mislead or violate YouTube’s policies; a playlist can raise policy concerns even if a single item might not. Rights clearance is not a monetization guarantee
YouTube assesses reused content separately from copyright permission. Its channel monetization policy describes reused content as material repurposed without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value, and says review applies to the channel as a whole. A rotation mainly made of third-party clips with little original contribution can raise monetization concerns even if the clips are licensed.

On July 15, 2025, YouTube said it renamed its repetitious-content policy to inauthentic content and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material is ineligible; the update did not change the reused-content policy. A clip does not appear in the playlist source
- Confirm VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS (64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS).
- Reopen the VLC Video source properties and verify the file is present and accessible.
The playlist stops instead of restarting
- Check that Loop Playlist is enabled in the VLC Video source.
- Preview the end of the list in OBS to confirm the source itself returns to the beginning.
Playback stops when you switch scenes
Check the VLC source’s behavior when it is not visible. Set it to continue playing when hidden if that matches your scene workflow, then test a scene switch before going live.
YouTube does not receive a picture or sound
- Confirm OBS is streaming to the intended YouTube service and that the correct server URL and stream key are entered.
- Check the OBS preview and audio meters, then confirm reception in the Live Control Room.
- If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS before restarting.
The stream is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder
Check YouTube’s copyright notice and review the clip and audio currently playing. A Content ID match can interrupt a live stream even when you believe you have a license; contact the rights owner about the required allowlisting and do not resume material unless its live-use rights are clear.

The stream ends or the archive is not what you expected
Review YouTube’s session and archive guidance and plan for streams that reach or exceed the under-12-hour automatic-archive threshold. A long-running channel may need to schedule or restart sessions and check each resulting archive.
