No—not as a native continuous-stream source. Vimeo’s documented Livestream workflow sends a live event from Vimeo to YouTube; it does not take a YouTube playlist and play it as the source of a Vimeo live stream. YouTube’s playlist loop repeats videos for playback on YouTube, which is a different function.
What Vimeo’s YouTube integration does
Vimeo documents two ways to send a Vimeo live event to YouTube: connect a YouTube account directly, or add YouTube as a custom RTMP destination using YouTube’s server URL and stream key. In both cases, the live production originates in Vimeo and is sent outward to YouTube. It does not make a YouTube playlist the input to Vimeo.
Vimeo’s help article says platform simulcasting requires an Advanced or Premium plan, or an Enterprise plan with the Events feature added. Plan packaging can change, so confirm current eligibility in Vimeo’s plan details before subscribing.
Why a YouTube playlist loop is different
YouTube’s playlist loop is a playback control: it repeats a playlist for viewers watching on YouTube. It does not create a live feed for Vimeo to ingest. If you want a Vimeo event to reach YouTube viewers, use Vimeo’s destination workflow; if you need a playlist to be the source of a continuous YouTube live stream, Vimeo’s documented native workflow does not provide that.

Send a Vimeo live event to YouTube
Option 1: Connect YouTube directly
- In Vimeo, create or open the live event and go to Settings, then Destinations.
- Choose the direct YouTube integration, connect the YouTube account, and select the destination channel.
- Set the YouTube privacy choice and enable the destination. Vimeo says the event simulcasts once the Vimeo event goes live.
Vimeo describes support for up to 10 integrated destinations. Depending on the destination and event setup, an operator may still need to start the stream on YouTube.
Option 2: Add YouTube as a custom RTMP destination
- In YouTube Live Control Room, prepare the live stream and copy its server URL and stream key.
- In Vimeo, open the event’s Settings and Destinations, then add a custom RTMP destination.
- Paste the YouTube server URL and stream key into the corresponding fields and save or enable the destination.
- Start the Vimeo event. If the YouTube event is scheduled, check Live Control Room: YouTube may require a separate Go live action.
Vimeo’s overview allows up to 20 custom RTMP destinations. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to the associated YouTube event.

Option 3: Livestream Studio
Vimeo documents a separate YouTube workflow in Livestream Studio: enter the YouTube stream URL and key in the YouTube provider, then select Go Live. Vimeo says the Studio workflow changed as of October 2024. For eligible Advanced or Premium accounts, or Enterprise accounts with Events, Vimeo recommends using its platform simulcasting workflow.
Direct integration or RTMP?
| Method | Setup | Destination limit stated by Vimeo | Possible YouTube start action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct integration | Connect the YouTube account, choose a channel and privacy setting, then enable the destination. | Up to 10 integrated destinations. | Some destinations may require an operator to start the stream on YouTube. |
| Custom RTMP | Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key as a Vimeo destination. | Up to 20 custom RTMP destinations. | A scheduled YouTube event may still require selecting Go live in Live Control Room. |
The documented limits and steps do not establish that one method is universally better. Choose based on whether you prefer account connection or manual URL-and-key setup, and verify the current plan and destination requirements.

Requirements and boundaries to check
- YouTube says a channel must be verified to go live. Complete the channel’s live-stream eligibility steps before scheduling a test.
- Confirm Vimeo plan eligibility: the cited Vimeo help article lists Advanced or Premium, or Enterprise with Events added.
- Distinguish the source from the destination: Vimeo’s workflow sends a Vimeo production feed to YouTube; it does not ingest a YouTube playlist.
- The official Vimeo material described here covers its native simulcasting and RTMP workflows. It does not establish whether a third-party intermediary, custom implementation or another Vimeo product could ingest a YouTube playlist continuously.
Troubleshooting a Vimeo-to-YouTube stream
The YouTube destination does not appear or cannot be enabled
Check that the account has the plan eligibility Vimeo documents and that the YouTube account connection is complete. If using RTMP, confirm the destination is configured with the server URL and stream key for the intended YouTube event.
The Vimeo event is live, but YouTube is not
For a scheduled event, open YouTube Live Control Room and look for a separate Go live action. Also verify that YouTube live streaming is enabled for the channel and that the destination points to the correct event.

The stream sends video, but not the playlist you expected
That is a source mismatch, not a playlist-loop setting in Vimeo. The documented integration carries the Vimeo live event to YouTube. A YouTube playlist loop only repeats playback on YouTube and is not the feed Vimeo receives.
