Yes. Wool carpet dampens certain vibrations when you move across it in an Ancient City, which can help keep nearby sculk sensors from detecting those events. For a vibration traveling toward a sensor—or a sensor signal traveling to a sculk shrieker—use wool blocks as a barrier. Neither method makes every action silent or guarantees that a Warden cannot be summoned.
What carpet can dampen
Mojang’s Java Snapshot 22w15a notes say carpets dampen vibrations caused by running and jumping over them, as well as vibrations from placing, breaking, or dropping carpet as an item. That makes carpet useful as a surface for moving through a sculk-covered area. The note documents those specific events; it does not establish that carpet conceals every action in the game.
The carpet mechanic is documented in a Java snapshot published April 13, 2022, rather than in an exhaustive current list covering every version and vibration type. See Mojang’s Java Snapshot 22w15a notes.
When to use wool blocks instead
Carpet is a surface; wool blocks can serve as barriers. Mojang’s Java Snapshot 20w49a notes say a wool block placed between a vibration source and a sculk sensor prevents that sensor from detecting the vibration. Mojang also explains that wool placed between a sensor and a sculk shrieker blocks the alarm signal.

- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
- Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
- Moving over an area: carpet can dampen the listed running and jumping vibrations.
- Blocking a path to a sensor: put a wool block between the source and sensor.
- Blocking a sensor-to-shrieker signal: put wool between the sensor and shrieker.
These are distinct uses: carpet dampens specified vibrations on its surface, while wool blocks occlude a path. See Mojang’s Java Snapshot 20w49a notes and its sculk shrieker guide.
Does carpet keep the Warden away?
No—not by itself. Ancient Cities are sculk-covered structures in the Deep Dark, where vibrations can contribute to awakening a Warden. Carpet and wool help with the specific vibration and signal interactions described above, but Mojang’s guidance does not promise immunity from every vibration or guarantee that a Warden cannot be summoned. Don’t assume that using carpet makes container interactions, placing or breaking other blocks, or other unlisted actions silent.

Mojang recommends bringing wool to muffle vibrations in Ancient Cities. Its Ancient City guidance describes the danger of awakening a Warden and advises players to bring wool.

The Java snapshot notes document carpet dampening running and jumping vibrations. For Bedrock, the 1.19.10 release notes report consistent wool occlusion and changes involving sensors and carpets: sensors no longer detect players placing or destroying blocks, walking, or falling on carpets. Those are version-specific notes, not an exhaustive guarantee about all current Bedrock versions or every possible vibration.
