Former DICE live producer Mats Holm said he did not expect Star Wars Battlefront 3 to be announced at the end of a player rally around Battlefront II in 2025. That was Holm’s expectation about that rally—not an official announcement, a cancellation, or confirmation that a sequel is in development.
What did the former DICE developer say?
In a report published May 23, 2025, IGN, republished by Yahoo Tech, said Holm responded to player questions on Reddit. The report attributed this statement to him: “I don’t expect Battlefront 3 to be announced at the end of this rally.”

The remark addressed the expected outcome of that particular 2025 player rally. It did not give a release date or say that a third game had been formally ruled out. The original Reddit post was not independently opened in the reporting summarized here.
Why did Holm doubt an announcement?
Holm’s reported reasoning focused on the people and work involved in making the games. He said much of the Battlefront II team had dispersed to other companies or independent work, and that the former live-operations team had worked differently from the original development team. Those are Holm’s assessments as reported in 2025, not a verified account of current DICE staffing.

The report also described DICE as focused on completing its Battlefield project at the time. That is a May 2025 description, not confirmation of the studio’s priorities in October 2026.
Is Battlefront 3 announced, or when will it come out?
Holm’s reported comment does not establish either an announcement or a release schedule. The available reporting supports only that he did not expect an announcement at the end of the rally then underway. It does not establish that EA or DICE has officially announced, canceled, or committed to developing Battlefront 3.

Was a Battlefront II remaster part of a plan?
Holm reportedly floated a possible route: remaster Battlefront II for a future console generation, then consider a third game if the remaster succeeded. It was his hypothetical proposal, not a confirmed EA or DICE project or schedule.

Does the player rally make a sequel more likely?
There was a measurable Steam-specific spike: indy100 reported, attributing the figure to VGC, that Battlefront II exceeded 18,000 concurrent Steam players on May 26, 2025. That is a dated peak on Steam, not a current count or a total across platforms.
The reporting connected renewed attention to Star Wars May 4 celebrations and the return of Andor. A player-count increase shows interest on that platform at that time; it does not demonstrate demand across every platform or guarantee that EA will make a sequel.
