Yes—Deoxys is part of the reason to consider Pokémon FireRed or LeafGreen on Switch. Nintendo says both digital releases include the original in-game event content that lets players encounter Deoxys. The official listing does not specify the unlock steps or establish that one version offers a different Deoxys form, so choose between the games for other version differences rather than an assumed Deoxys advantage.
Deoxys is included in both Switch releases
Nintendo’s official FireRed listing and LeafGreen listing each say the digital game includes original in-game events in which players can encounter Deoxys, Lugia, and Ho-Oh. That makes Deoxys a supported reason to buy either game—not a feature that Nintendo’s listings reserve for only one version.

The product pages do not explain how to unlock the event or say which Deoxys form each game provides. TechRadar reported on March 18, 2026, that players receive the Aurora Ticket after defeating the Champion and use it to reach Deoxys. Treat that as secondary reporting, not a step-by-step instruction confirmed by Nintendo’s product page: TechRadar’s report.
Does Deoxys make one version the better buy?
Not on the evidence available from Nintendo’s listings. They confirm Deoxys encounters in both games but do not establish a FireRed-versus-LeafGreen distinction in Deoxys form. If you are choosing just one, compare the current price in your region, the version-exclusive Pokémon or content you care about, and the language edition you want. Nintendo’s announcement confirms separate language versions, but it is not a complete guide to version exclusives.

If collecting or completing the relevant Pokémon entries is your goal, the listing’s confirmation still matters: either release includes event content for encountering Deoxys. Buying both may make sense for other collection goals, but Nintendo’s published information cited here does not show that both are needed to obtain Deoxys.
What to know before buying on Switch
Digital purchase, not a standard physical Switch game
In the Americas, Nintendo sells FireRed and LeafGreen as separate digital Nintendo eShop purchases and says they will not be available physically. They are also separate from the Game Boy Advance – Nintendo Classics collection. Nintendo’s support FAQ covers the release format and features.

No Nintendo Switch Online subscription needed
Nintendo Support says a Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required to purchase or play either game. Local wireless supports trading and battling; the FAQ says online play is not available. If you want to play with someone, plan on local wireless rather than an internet connection.
Check the language edition at checkout
The games are sold as separate language versions. Nintendo of Canada’s release announcement lists English, French, and Spanish editions and says the language cannot be changed in-game. Confirm the edition in the eShop before purchasing.

Switch 2 compatibility
Nintendo says both titles work on Switch 2 and that behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Support reports no major performance difference.

Nintendo’s listing said transfers to Pokémon HOME would begin in October 2026 and advertised a Celebi Mystery Gift for completing the game’s Pokédex in HOME. Because that date has arrived, check Nintendo’s current listing and Pokémon HOME notices for the live transfer status and reward conditions before buying for that purpose.
