Yes. DOOM + DOOM II added multiplayer mod support in Update 2 on January 28, 2025. To play a modded match, the host activates a compatible mod before opening multiplayer, and every friend joining subscribes to that same mod. Bethesda recommends joining with a room code.
How to start a multiplayer mod match
- Everyone subscribes to the mod. In DOOM + DOOM II, choose a game, open Mods, find the mod under Featured Mods or Browse, open its details, and select Subscribe. Bethesda also says players can subscribe through its Mods website using the same account. See Bethesda’s mod installation steps.
- The host activates the mod. From the Mods menu, choose Play for the subscribed mod. Do this before entering multiplayer.
- The host opens the multiplayer match and shares its room code. Bethesda recommends room codes for modified matches.
- Joining players use the code to join. They must already be subscribed to the same mod. If a player views a match running a mod they do not have, Update 3 says they are directed to the Mods page.
Bethesda’s Update 2 notes name Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, and BOOM as supported mod formats for multiplayer. That is not a promise that every mod in the browser works online: check compatibility for the specific mod you want to play.

What multiplayer mod support means
Update 2, released January 28, 2025, added the feature across platforms. The host’s activation step and each guest’s subscription step are separate requirements; simply joining a friend’s room does not supply or activate the mod for you.
The original enhanced collection supports online co-op and Deathmatch for up to 16 players, as well as cross-platform play, according to Bethesda’s launch notes. That overall player limit is not a guarantee that a particular mod supports 16 players. Online multiplayer requires an internet connection. On Nintendo Switch, online play also requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership, according to the Nintendo UK listing.

Playing mods versus publishing them

What changed after the feature launched
Bethesda’s Update 3 notes, dated April 10, 2025 and updated April 29, 2025, report a fix for a crash that could occur while playing BTSX Episode 2 in multiplayer. They also describe the prompt directing players without a match’s mod to the Mods page. The notes reported downloaded-mod storage increases to 5 GB on PlayStation 4 and 20 GB on PlayStation 5; those are patch-specific figures, not a guarantee of current storage limits.
