Download the Steam client from Steam’s official download page by selecting Install Steam. Steam does not provide a numbered current client version in the reviewed page text, so use its live official installer rather than relying on a version number from another site.
How to download and install Steam
- Open the official page: Go to store.steampowered.com/about/downloads.
- Start the download: Select Install Steam and follow the download prompt. The reviewed page does not confirm whether the link automatically selects an installer for a particular operating system.
- Run the installer: Open the downloaded installer and follow its on-screen setup steps.
- Launch Steam: Open the client after setup and sign in or create an account when prompted.
What “latest version” means
The official page directs users to the current installer but does not state a numbered client version, release date, or installer filename in its reviewed text. For the current download, use Steam’s official page rather than guessing a version or downloading an installer from an unofficial mirror.

Windows and Mac compatibility
The reviewed official page does not establish minimum supported Windows or macOS versions. Check Steam’s live platform information before installing if compatibility is uncertain; do not infer support from a client download link or a version number shown elsewhere.
Valve’s Steam Hardware & Software Survey describes optional, anonymous participation and reports the hardware and software of participating customers. Steam client downloads are not game downloads
Steam is an online platform for playing, discussing, and creating games. Installing the client gives you access to Steam features such as game access, automatic game updates, community functions, and Steam Workshop. Downloading the client does not itself install a particular game; game downloads are handled separately through Steam.
