“The program can’t start because dpugui11.dll is missing from your computer.” dpugui11.dll is an old DivXNetworks application component, not a Windows system file. The safest repair is to identify the program requesting it and repair or reinstall that program from its original installer or a matching official DivX legacy package.

Do not begin by downloading a standalone DLL, copying it into System32, or running regsvr32.

dpugui11.dll has the internal description dpuGUI11 and is associated with DivXNetworks dpuGUI11. It is a third-party application DLL used by older DivX-related software.

Public file inventories commonly identify it as a 32-bit Win32 component. Reported metadata includes version 1.0.1.0 and a size of approximately 576 KB, but those details should not be treated as a guaranteed specification for every historical DivX release. Different packages may contain different builds.
This file is not part of:
- Windows 10 or Windows 11
- Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
- DirectX
- .NET
- A normal Windows hardware driver
That distinction matters. Windows will not normally recreate dpugui11.dll through Windows Update, System File Checker, or a standard runtime installation.
Older DivX installations could include related components such as dpu11.dll, dpugui10.dll, dpus11.dll, dpv11.dll, DivX.dll, and divxdec.ax. The executable that displays the error, rather than Windows itself, is the program that is requesting dpugui11.dll.

This is the most reliable fix because the installer restores the DLL together with the correct companion files, configuration, and dependencies.
Identify the requesting program
- Write down the complete error message.
- Note the application name in the title bar.
- If the message appears during startup, open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Processes and look for the application that was launching.
- For a shortcut, right-click it, choose Properties, and inspect the Target field.
- Do not assume that a program called “Windows” or “System” owns the file. The error dialog can appear while Windows is launching an older application configured to start automatically.
Repair the installation
- Press
Win+Ito open Settings. - Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for the application named in the error. Search for DivX as well.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the program.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair and wait for it to finish.
- Restart the application.
If there is no Repair option:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs, then Programs and Features.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Change, Modify, or Repair if the installer provides it.
- Restart Windows and test the program.
Reinstall from a trusted installer
If repair fails, uninstall the affected application, restart Windows, and reinstall it using:
- The original installer supplied with the application
- The application vendor’s official download
- The matching package on DivX’s official Legacy downloads page
DivX’s legacy page lists packages including DivX 6.8.5 and DivX 7.2, along with older DivX and Dr. DivX releases. The exact package that originally contained dpugui11.dll has not been established from an official installer manifest, so choose the package associated with the application you are trying to restore rather than installing packages at random.
Current DivX software should not automatically be expected to restore this file. DivX changed its bundled codec contents and removed the legacy Codec Pack beginning with DivX 10.2.
A successful repair means the original application opens without the dpugui11.dll message. If the message changes to name another DLL, the first problem may be fixed and the newly named dependency now needs attention.
Fix 2: Verify a game or launcher installation
Some older games bundled DivX playback or codec components. If the error appears when starting a game, use the launcher’s repair feature before changing Windows files.
Look for one of these commands:
- Open the game launcher.
- Open your library.
- Right-click the affected game or open its settings menu.
- Choose Verify, Verify integrity, Repair, or a similarly named command.
- Let the launcher replace missing or damaged files.
- Restart the launcher and test the game.
If verification does not restore the program, uninstall and reinstall the game from its official installer. Avoid copying dpugui11.dll from another computer unless the vendor specifically directs that procedure and the complete application build is identical.

Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
An old codec component can be quarantined because it is obsolete, unsigned, bundled with old software, or detected by a security rule. A matching filename does not prove that a file is safe.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries related to
dpugui11.dllor the affected application. - Expand the detection and inspect the original path, detected item, and action.
- If the file came from an official installer and the detection is clearly a false positive, use the available restore or allow option only after reviewing the warning.
- Run a fresh scan after restoration.
- If the file came from a temporary folder, an unknown download, or a user-writable location, do not restore it. Remove the application and reinstall it from a trusted source.
If antivirus removed the file rather than quarantining it, reinstall the owning application. Do not try to recover an isolated binary and place it into a system directory.
Fix 4: Check the application folder and architecture
The commonly reported dpugui11.dll build is 32-bit, so it normally belongs with a 32-bit application. A 64-bit version of the file is not an acceptable substitute.
To inspect the installation:
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Choose Properties.
- Select Open file location if available.
- Look for
dpugui11.dllin the same folder as the application executable or in one of its application subfolders. - Right-click the DLL if present and choose Properties.
- Review the Details and Digital Signatures tabs where available.
- Scan the file with Windows Security.
Do not copy the DLL into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 as a general fix. On 64-bit Windows, those directories have special system architecture behavior: System32 conventionally contains native 64-bit system files, while SysWOW64 contains 32-bit system files. Application DLLs should normally remain in the application’s own directory.
Windows commonly searches the application directory before system locations. That is why placing a file beside an executable can change its behavior, but it also means an incorrect copy can override the correct dependency. Reinstalling the complete application is safer than manually controlling DLL search behavior.
Fix 5: Do not install unrelated runtimes automatically
Installing Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET is not the primary repair for dpugui11.dll. There is no evidence that this filename itself is a Microsoft runtime component.
Install or repair a Microsoft runtime only when the complete error names a specific dependency, such as:
- A Visual C++ runtime DLL
- A DirectX file such as
d3dx,xinput, orxaudio - A .NET Framework or .NET runtime error
If reinstalling the DivX-era application produces a separate runtime error, handle that newly named dependency according to its own requirements.
Windows Features also does not normally provide this DivX DLL. Enabling or disabling legacy components may help a different compatibility problem, but it will not recreate an application file that was removed from a DivX installation.

dpugui11.dll is not a standard hardware-driver file. Device Manager is relevant only if the same program also reports a graphics, audio, display, or other device problem.

To check a related device:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category named by the application or error.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
For a clean reinstall, right-click the device, choose Uninstall device, restart Windows, and then install the driver from the hardware manufacturer’s official support page. Do not remove a device merely because dpugui11.dll is missing.

- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Try the Windows version closest to the software’s original release.
- Select Run this program as an administrator only if the application requires elevated access.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Start the program again.
If the application installs but still fails, use the vendor’s current compatibility guidance or replace the obsolete application with a supported alternative. A DLL replacement cannot correct an incompatible program architecture or an unsupported codec pipeline.

Because dpugui11.dll is a third-party application file, SFC and DISM normally will not recreate it. Use these tools when Windows itself shows other corruption symptoms, such as damaged built-in apps, failing system components, or multiple unrelated errors.
First open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for it to complete. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands finish. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the original application again. If both commands complete without finding a problem, return to repairing the application rather than repeating them.
Repeatedly hunting through repair commands without knowing which Windows component changed can waste time. Fix 9: Use System Restore after a recent change
If the program worked until a recent uninstall, update, cleanup, or system change, System Restore may return application-related settings and files to an earlier state.
- Press
Win+R. - Enter
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the list.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore is not a substitute for reinstalling an application, and it may not restore every third-party file. If the error remains, reinstall the affected program from its original or official legacy installer.
Why regsvr32 usually does not apply
regsvr32 registers self-registering DLLs that provide a DllRegisterServer entry point. It does not download a missing DLL, repair its dependencies, or restore an application installation.
Do not run:
regsvr32 dpugui11.dll
unless the application vendor specifically instructs you to register this DLL. A missing or damaged DivX runtime component should normally be repaired through the owning application’s installer.

- A file that still fails because another dependency is missing
Use the original application installer, the software vendor’s official support channel, or DivX’s official Legacy downloads page instead. Confirm the original path and scan any existing file before allowing antivirus software to restore it.
