Corinne Busche was game director of the next Dragon Age, now released as Dragon Age: The Veilguard. In a 2022 BioWare profile, Busche described herself as a “queer trans woman” and said that identity gave her a perspective on the games that not everyone has. That is worth celebrating—not because one person represents every LGBTQIA+ player, but because more perspectives can be part of how a team makes a game.
Who directed Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
BioWare identified Corinne Busche as game director in its February 23, 2022 production update, saying she was leading the design direction for the next Dragon Age. The studio profiled her in that role on May 27, 2022. BioWare’s production update and developer profile are the studio’s contemporaneous accounts.

The project was then known publicly as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. BioWare announced the name Dragon Age: The Veilguard in June 2024, and the game has since been released. The new title is the right one to use for the finished game; “Dragon Age 4” remains familiar shorthand for the project’s place in the series. BioWare explained the title change in its June 6, 2024 announcement.
What did Busche say about being trans?
In BioWare’s profile, Busche said: “As a queer trans woman, I have a perspective on the games that not everyone has.” She also spoke about the value of LGBTQIA+ representation in Dragon Age. These are her own reflections, published by BioWare; they should be understood as her perspective rather than a claim that all queer or trans players share the same experience.

Why does her role matter?
Representation in game development is not a guarantee of any particular story or outcome, and a director does not make a large game alone. Busche described directing as stewardship of a vision defined by the team, with the director helping people work together toward a cohesive experience for players. Her own explanation captures both the importance and the limits of the role:
“Being a game director is about being a steward for the vision that we, as a team, have defined. It’s a role where I have a high-level view of everything as it’s coming together and can steer the project as it does, but ultimately it’s about empowering people to work together to create a cohesive experience for the player.”
