The strongest practical starting point is the large chest in the Elven Ruins: it offers a different listed weapon for each class. For Warrior, Rogue, or Mage, choose the compatible weapon and judge its effects against the enemies you face rather than treating raw damage as a universal ranking.
How to choose an early weapon
EA describes three classes—Warrior, Rogue, and Mage—and notes that enemy types have different weaknesses and resistances. Weapon choice is therefore class-specific, and an effect that suits one enemy matchup may be less useful against another. The figures below are values displayed by Map Master, not results from a controlled performance test. Treat them as guide-listed stats, not a like-for-like ranking.
All three Elven Ruins entries below are reported in the same large chest, making it a useful class-based stop while exploring. EA says exploration opens after the Prologue, but that does not establish the exact quest point when each chest becomes reachable.
Verified early-game weapons by class
| Weapon | Class and slot | Reported location | Displayed stats and useful effects |

| Storm Needle | Rogue; weapon | Large chest in the Elven Ruins | Map Master lists 49 Physical Damage and 54 Stagger. Its early upgrades include +20% Penetration and a critical effect against high-health enemies. |
| Twist of the Veil | Mage; weapon | Large chest in the Elven Ruins | Map Master lists 47 Physical Damage and 29 Stagger. Its early upgrades include +25% damage versus Armor and +30% charged-attack damage. |

Weapon names, locations, displayed values, and upgrade effects in this table are reported by Map Master’s unique equipment guide. The Hard Way’s location and route are also described by GameSpot. These sources do not provide a controlled comparison of performance.

Best fit for each class
Rogue: Storm Needle
Storm Needle is the Rogue option in the Elven Ruins chest. Its listed Penetration upgrade and critical effect against high-health enemies give it specific situations where it may be useful; the cited figures do not establish that it outperforms other Rogue weapons in every encounter.
Mage: Twist of the Veil
Twist of the Veil is the Mage pick among the three chest options. Its listed bonuses target Armor and charged attacks, so consider whether those benefits match your attacks and the enemies you are fighting.

Warrior: Fade-Touched War Axe or The Hard Way
The Fade-Touched War Axe is the Warrior weapon reported in the Elven Ruins chest, with listed bonuses for damage versus health and Precision on kills. The Hard Way is another Warrior axe, notable for permanently lowering enemy Defense with each hit. No source establishes which is better overall or gives a shared upgrade-state comparison, so treat them as distinct options rather than a definitive first-and-second ranking.
Where to find The Hard Way in Treviso
GameSpot describes a route to the large chest on the Streets of Coin Financials roof involving a roof, a window, a bookshelf, and a balcony. The available sources do not establish exactly when during the early game the chest becomes accessible, so do not assume it is obtainable at a particular quest milestone.
When weapon stats change
Map Master says the Caretaker’s Workshop becomes available after completing the main quest The Singing Blade. Weapons found before the Workshop opens remain at base stats until then, so their displayed values should not be mistaken for fully upgraded performance. Map Master also distinguishes item level from rarity: unique weapons cannot have their rarity increased, but they can be enchanted at the Workshop. Make sure any comparison uses the same upgrade state.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why this is a four-pick shortlist, not a top ten
The cited guides establish useful early-game details for four weapons, but they do not support ten item-level recommendations with comparable location, timing, and effect information. Adding unverified entries or late-game gear would make a “best ten” ranking misleading. These four picks are a class-aware shortlist, not an official ranking or a tested verdict.
