The Reddit thread and linked report were not available in full for verification, so it is not possible to establish Darrah’s precise wording or reasoning from those materials.
That makes the attribution less certain than the score currently displayed on Metacritic. The safest description is that Darrah was reported to have predicted 88, not that he is confirmed to have made a specific verbatim statement.
How did the prediction compare with the review score?
When checked on October 8, 2026, Metacritic listed an overall critic Metascore of 82 from 73 reviews, six points below the reported 88 prediction. Metacritic classified the critic reception as “Generally Favorable.” The aggregate is a live figure, however, and can change as reviews are added or the site updates its data.

The comparison is between a reported prediction and a critic-review aggregate—not a prediction of player ratings, sales, or the game’s quality for every player.
How did scores differ by platform?
Metacritic displayed different critic aggregates for each listed platform on October 8, 2026. Each score reflects its own set of reviews, so platform figures should not be merged or treated as interchangeable.

These are the platform-specific values Metacritic displayed when checked on October 8, 2026; review counts and aggregates may change. The overall score of 82 is a separate aggregate and should not be derived by averaging the three platform scores.
What about the user score?
Metacritic showed a user score of 4.0 from 8,828 user ratings on October 8, 2026, and classified user reception as “Generally Unfavorable.” That measures user ratings rather than professional critic reviews, so it does not directly confirm or disprove a critic-score prediction. The rating count and score are live values that may change.

When did The Veilguard launch?
BioWare announced on August 15, 2024 that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would launch worldwide on October 31, 2024. The announcement described it as a character-driven RPG in which players take the role of Rook and lead companions in a fight for Thedas.
