Complete Where the Dead Must Go and recruit Emmrich to unlock Hauntings: Deathly Curiosity. The two linked Mourn Watch quests take you from the Necropolis Halls to Arlathan Forest to defeat Burgeoning Malice and Nocturnix. Both spirits are weak to necrotic damage and resistant to cold.
How to start Deathly Curiosity
After completing the main quest Where the Dead Must Go and recruiting Emmrich, speak with him at the Lighthouse to open the relevant exploration access. Then travel to the Necropolis Halls and talk to Myrna at Hollow Belfry, Lower. She gives you Hauntings: Deathly Curiosity.
Where to find Burgeoning Malice
- From Hollow Belfry, Lower, note that the southern door toward the Spectral Court is sealed from this side.
- Head northeast to the Path of Sighs, then follow the route southeast, southwest, and west.
- Defeat the first Venatori group and clear the barriers to enter the Spectral Court. Burgeoning Malice is there.
How to beat Burgeoning Malice
Burgeoning Malice is a skeletal mage protected by a barrier. Gamer Guides’ walkthrough describes blue and red magical bolts, spinning arcane lances, red crystals near the boss, area spikes, and a T-shaped spike line. It advises moving sideways to avoid the bolts and using ranged attacks to pressure the barrier.
- Exploit its weakness: Use necrotic damage; the boss resists cold.
- Keep moving: Watch for the ground spikes and close-range crystal attacks as well as the ranged patterns.
- Companions: The walkthrough recommends Emmrich for necrotic damage and Lucanis for barrier pressure. Neither is required.
Defeating the boss grants 350 EXP and a gear chest, according to Gamer Guides. The specific item can vary with Rook’s class: its mage example received the Researcher’s Coat.

Turn in Deathly Curiosity and start Restless Dreams
Return to Myrna at Hollow Belfry, Lower, to complete the quest. The turn-in reward is 400 gold and +250 Mourn Watch Strength. Myrna’s conversation starts Hauntings: Restless Dreams.
Where to find Nocturnix
- Travel to Arlathan Forest and fast travel to Ruins Reach, north of the Veil Jumpers’ camp.
- Go north to the area near a wolf statue. Nocturnix is nearby; Gamer Guides notes that this is not an active Fen’Harel statue.
How to beat Nocturnix
Nocturnix has armor and summons Undead Warriors. Gamer Guides recommends focusing on Nocturnix while avoiding the minions, which it can replace. Its attacks include necrotic bolts and a close-range area blast; hits can inflict necrosis.

Return to Myrna to complete Restless Dreams for 400 gold and +250 Mourn Watch Strength. The Hauntings sequence then pauses until you complete the main quest The Siege of Weisshaupt; additional Hauntings quests unlock afterward.

Game8 search-result summaries also list the 400 gold and +250 Mourn Watch Strength turn-ins, but differ on the Restless Dreams gear: Game8 lists the Seafarer’s Cutlass appearance, while Gamer Guides describes a class-dependent gear chest and gives a mage example. Treat the chest item as variable rather than a guaranteed universal reward. Game8’s Deathly Curiosity summary and Restless Dreams summary provide that limited cross-check.
